Mixing fuel
Mixing fuel
A friend of mine has built a 10.75:1 408W.(I know it`s a ford).He
has been having a problem with pre-ignition.I don`t think there is any problem in mixing 114 octane race fuel and 94 unleaded.(if
you dont have cats) is there?

I can't remember the proper word for the chemical property of fuel but all gasoline can be mixed. Leaded fuel will plug up a cat and kill an O2 sensor if installed.
Mixing equal parts of both those fuels will give an octane rating of 104. 10.75:1 compression ratio shouldn't need more than 93. If the engine is knocking, I'd check other things first before increasing the octane levels. Cam and ignition timing would be the first place to look. Total timing might not be correct.
