First time to the track.
First time to the track.
Ok, something has to be wrong with my car or it was just me sucking my first time to the track.
Anyway, first run, I ran a 16.86! with my setup. All I did was leave it in drive and punch it and I think I had wheel spin?
Second run, I had a quicker R/T but the damn thing bogged like hell (wouldn't go past 3000rpm!) and I ran a 17.7!!
Third run, a friend of mine who has an 89 RS with a carbed 305 with a ton of miles said manually shift it up, hold it to 5000rpm each time.
I took his advice and this is my best timeslip, and the loosing car was a 2000? I think coupe Bullitt Mustang GT. I got my revenge on a Mustang at least, but he HAD to screw up something for him to lose to me, but I saw him run again and he only ran a 15.01?! Newb like me I guess..
Here is my time:
R/T - .933
60' - 2.367
330 - 6.727
1/8 - 10.222@71.46
1000 - 13.157
1/4 - 15.654@89.96
The 2000 Bullitt
R/T - 1.549
60' - 2.657
330 - 7.304
1/8 - 10.781@71.23
1000 - 13.683
1/4 - 16.079@94.43
First question, he was going about 5mph faster than me, how did I lose? G/F said he dropped back when I shifted into second but we were pretty close until I did so, even though I took him off the line.
My car also stalls REAL easy when it was in the staging lanes...I reset my IAC and that helped a little (its fairly new also), but I still have a surging idle and it eventually keeps surging lower and lower RPMs till it dies...Its friggin weird, its done it since the swap. 305 never used to do that crap.

1st, recognize that R/T has no (direct) effect on ET. The ET timer starts when your front tire no longer blocks the staged beam, not when the light turns green.
Otherwise, I'd say your times fairly well reflect a "first time out" experience. You said you were spinning off the line - not surprising. Getting good traction at the track takes some effort. Getting everything sorted out and working together takes some time.
As for his speed, he apparently lost something during the run, which cost him time, but not speed. If he ran a 15.0 later, then a 95 MPH is pretty consistent with that. His 60' is indicative of a very poor launch, either caused by no traction, or highway gears. Either will lead to relatively slow ETs with relatively fast MPH.
FWIW, I'm running about .6 sec quicker ET with the '57 now than I was earlier this year, but 1 mph slower. My 60' times have dropped .4 sec. Interesting, huh?

yeah sounds like u need some tuning big time, you should at least be seeing mid 14s at least with ur mods i would think.
no problems though i ran a 15.3 with my car the first time, the next run went to 14.6's and then i started seeing low 14s.
i got pretty good 60s and i just usually mash the gas in drive and let the tranny do the work.
what rear gears do you have?

I have 2.73 gears...I didn't have to shift into "D"..so I basically was doing 90 in second gear.
I guess I should have also held it to 5500rpm since the max reccomended RPM for the 350 H.O. is 5700rpm..Maybe would've gotten me a 15.4 or so. It starts pulling HARD above 4000rpms.
I'm also running the cfm-tech 1" spacer which a friend of mine swears it sacrifices lower RPM power for top end HP. Dunno how right or wrong he is?
All I know is that the trick is to manually shift it because for some reason it just bogs when I mash it in D because it shifts way to early...I hate playing with that damn kickdown cable...wish the 700-R4 was computer controlled like my girlfriends 4T65E
