Hey fellas, sorry if this ends up being a double post, the forum logged me out and back in when I tried to post. Anyway, I finally took my car out to the local track, which is an 1/8, not a 1/4 unfortunately. First time I'd ever been down the track, so my first time was absolutely horrible . Only kept my third slip, but the first was like a 10.6, like I said, terrible. Second dropped to like 9.9, and my third and best (the one I have the slip for) ended up being:

R/T: .895
60: 2.409
MPH: 72.23
330: 9.844

My car's an '88 Iroc hardtop, stock 5.7L/auto, 2.77 posi, power everything with 127K miles. Any ideas, comments, suggestions are welcome, other than damn your times suck, I already got that one down . Alright fine, say that too .

I forgot to mention your 9.84 second e.t. would be a 15.36 @ about 91 mph on a quartermile.

Yes, I was spinning horribly, the tires are futura Ultra-Z's, that night I dropped them to around 30psi on my second and third runs. The track isn't the best for traction, it is the Natural Bridge dragstrip in VA. If I ever get the car home from college it will be up in Boston, MA.

The other odd thing I noticed is that my mph improved each of my three runs, it went from like 66 to 70 to 72, it was my understanding that it was the ET that changed with traction problems or bad runs or whatever, and your mph was supposed to be pretty consistant, is this wrong?

Hey DakotaSLT - I have basically the same car except mine has T Tops. I ran at my local 1/8th mi track a couple of weekends ago for the first time and the best I could get was a 9.622. My car is totally stock. Some the guys from this forum suggested that I concentrate on traction issues at first, which I tend to agree. My 60' times are horrible - usually 2.25 - 2.4. I have tried all kinds of things(driving) to improve the 60'. So far the best times were when I left off idle and not trying to brake the car up to some rpms.

Hey congratulations man! That translates to a 14.6-14.8 I believe? Your car has the highway gears as well? I (think) that is what the 2.7x cars were supposed to run. What was your mph? If its anywhere near mine, I'm hoping I can turn in a similar time next time I go to the track. I am also fighting high engine temps at the moment, I'm hoping if I can drop those I can pick up a tenth or two there as well. My only fear of doing traction mods right now is that if I hook, the driveline takes the abuse instead of the tires, and with 127K, something's likely to let go . That's ok though, once something big DOES break, I've got a few tweaks that I think will fix it up just fine .

Yeah, I have the 2.77's. I was thinking about them the other day and I do not think they are hurting me that much. I am still in second through the traps in the eighth. If they were a little higher, I would be shifting just before the traps and I do not think I want that. The only way I can see a gear change helping is to change it by alot, that way I would be in the fat part of the torque curve in the traps. If I did that, I think I would ruin the purpose of my car - fast every day driver street car.

My mph is near yours, maybe 1 mph or so higher, but not sure. I will check when I get home tonight.

My next purchase for the car has to be exhaust. The oem setup is rotting in a few places and it is annoying as hell and pretty embarassing. The rear section bounces because the inlet pipe before the muffler is rotted through. I gotta fix it, its driving me crazy.
