you have to weld the door bars to the main hoop for it to be legal if memory serves me right. and if you welded it to the cross bar.. it probalby wouldn't clear the seat.
I didn't do the welding in mine.. pals of mine are pros and did it. they didn't have any problems... althogh the interior was gutted otu at the time..
the hardest welds to make ar the main hoop to the rear supports.. where the welds are about an inch from the roof.

We didnt have any problems with those because my headliner is out. But the side bars are literally 3/4" from the sides of the car and all the interior that can come out is removed
.
.they need to be welded to the hoop to be NHRA legal. what type of kit did you use? you may have it too far back in the car...
Must be welded onto the main hoop. Door bars also must pass between the driver's shoulder and elbow.
Didn't you watch that Horsepower TV show where they installed a full cage? You tack weld the main hoop to the floor. Tack the door bars to the main hoop then cut the main hoop tack welds off. You should then be able to move the hoop around just enough to get a full weld around the door bar.
