I use one of those Moroso electric motors to drive the water pump. They're cheap compared to a full electric pump like a CSI.

My alternator is on a fabricated bracket moved outward from the original location so that the belt can go under the water pump pulley.

Although there's not a lot of room because of the steering box, another option is to mount a low mount alternator down low. The BBC gives no room for me to mount one there but a SBC might have enough room.

If it's track only, you can mount the alternator backwards if you want with the pulley towards the block. The alternator doesn't care what direction it spins but on a street driven car, the alternator fan won't be spinning the correct direction to help cool the alternator down.

Here's a picture of a CSI pump and a low mounted alternator on my big block. The mount is custom fabricated from tubular steel (I used old 7/16" pushrods) patterned in a triangulated shape for strength. The lower adjustable link (can't be seen in this pic) is made from a short length of hex bar stock that was threaded on both ends to accept 2 heim joint rod ends (one reverse thread). This makes belt adjustments quick and easy. Everything fits nicely between the engine and frame rail, and behind the blower drive.
