suspension setup
suspension setup
need some suggestions on a suspension to help my 60' times. last year my best was a 2.2.
last year i had relocation brackets, sfc, eibach prokit, kyb strut/shocks, and slicks
this year i've added tubular lca's, adjustable tq arm, phr, replaced the kyb's with bilstiens hd's, and running on some bfg DR's. the only mod not done yet is a cage
i dyno'd at almost 300 whp last year and that should be even higher after some more engine work over the winter. i think i should be able to hook up better then a 2.2 60'
any suggestions are very welcomed!!!

What's your pinion angle set at?
What gearing is in the diff?
What transmission?
How much did you play with tire pressures?
How old are the tires?
It might not even be a car problem. If the track isn't prepped properly then you'll never get a good 60' time.

i had 4.10 in the rear end at the time, which i felt was to much really...now i am having a new rear with 3.73 which i hope will help.
i have a T5
i dont remember the exact tire pressure, but i would lower it a psi or two every run to try get better traction....that helped for a few runs, but the it started to hurt trap speeds badly. The tires had a few seasons on them, i think that might of been one of the major problems last year, so i am going to try some BFG dr's this season.
the track prep wasnt great, but FWD cars with a lot less power were getting better 60' times. after watching the videos of the runs, it seems like right of the line the car would launch really nice and hard, then loose traction about 30 foot away from the start line....like the suspension would unload or something.
am i headed in the right direction for better traction.....or am i just throwing away money
thanks!

No your headed in the right direction. The torque arm and LCA's are a great additions and should help you plant the tires and hook better. The stock pinion angle is 1 degree down. They dont recommend anything more than a max of 3 to 4 degrees down for a dual purpose street/ strip car. I'd say go with 3 degrees down and see what happens. The gear change to 3.73's is also a good move given the low first gear ratio in your T5. As far as the BFG drag radials Ive heard more good than bad about these tires and am going to buy a set myself this year. With what youve done you should definetly see an improvement in your 60' times

if you have a down track loss of grip i would suggest lookin at your clutch. are you dumping it? are you fading it out? where do you hit your 1-2 shift?
any of these things could and will seriously effect your 60ft times and will not show up over the rest of the run.
launching a stick consistantly and hard is nto the easiest way to go about this, you really have to jsut find the sweet spot.
for the dr's i would say look around 17psi +or - 2psi as the answer. work with teh front of the car to help you get rolling. raise yoru front air pressures up, street radials can easily handle beign inflated to 50psi for the short duration of a drag race.

i started to put the new mods on the car today....i will try to set the pinion angle at -3 degrees at first and see how that feels.
njspder, its funny you mentioned the clutch. i could feel the clutch slipping a little at shifts, so i went ahead and put a ceterforce DF clutch in over the winter.
i hope all this will help some
thanks
