New best time off the bottle

Just got back from the drag strip a bit ago with a new best time for a motor run. Last year the best was a 13.42 @ 102 with a 1.91 60'. Tonight's first run was a 12.22 @ 111 with a 1.80 60'! The biggest change I've done since last September was to chop the single 3 inch exhaust off right at the end of the y-pipe Friday night. Also rejetted the carb and have an air pan sealed against the cowl hood. It just blew my mind how well it ran tonight, I thought maybe I'd get into the high 12's but not 12.22 It's finally starting to run what I had in mind when getting the motor together.

Edit, here's the video

Thats awesome. Now try that 210 shot and see if you can't get a low 10.

Very nice improvement. Do you have any pics of the pan you used to seal the carb to the cowl?

WOW! id suggest some lontubes and a true dual system now!

i like the NO TREADS rule. that is the single reason it's so hard to hook at my track. all the little imports drag water up to the starting line.

oh, looks like you may need to work on that reaction time a little bud.

Wow, that was quite an improvment! I never wanted to SAY it, but EvilCartman I thought that for what you had in the motor and with 4.56 gears 13.42 N/A was pretty weak, and it was- but now we know why! Sounds like it was really corked up and you hit the problem on the nose! Some longtubes and true duals look like the ticket to me. I bet there's more N/A to be had there too.

84firebird383, if I get a 10.9X sometime this year using the nitrous I'd be really happy Friend of mine said that it would get into the 10's and I didn't believe it would be possible till last night.

Blackroc86, I'll get a pic later today when the car is unloaded.

mw66nova, Exactly the plan for new exhaust Oh and my reaction times lol they've put in a new tree this year so I'm not used to it (really never been good anyway ) Had a red light my second run.

eric17422001, I've been disapointed with running mid 13's on the motor since the first time to the track with the 350. Knew something was up and had a hunch it was the exhaust hehe.

Thanks guys for the comments now for 11's on the motor

Nice numbers

What were your trapping at the stripe? how tall of a tire are your running?

Only asking cuz if your up there already in rpm, when you hit the juice you might not have anyplace to go with it except Nascar style 9K

Yes, very good times. What is your exhaust from the Y-pipe back? Just wondering how restrictive it is. Allen

Hehe, it's the crappy single 3 inch system that was holding me back. Going to see about getting the oval pipe setup with the low profile spintechs or do a big single, not sure yet till I start looking under the car.

I was turning about 6800 at the line running 26" tall tires. Probably have to step up to 28" tires and maybe some 4.10 gears.

Not yet, looks like I'll be spending some money getting one in now.

I was just wondering as I ordered the 3.5 inch Mufflex system for my car. Thanks, Allen

I'll be interested to see how much the gear change/tire change affects ET/mph. Depending on your cam it may not change too awful much since it'll be using the torque factor from your cam to push you through the gears, but will really open up a window on the top side when you decide to spray.

Just took a pic, nothing really fancy but it works Really need to get some aluminum bent up to hold the radiator. Those temporary brackets have been on there for some time now hehe. Oh, the big alt pulley is on because I was trying to fix a belt throwing issue. Finally got everything aligned right and no more problems
