First time out with new motor/trans/suspension
I went down to Atco raceway last week and it turned out to be a good night; the track was hooking good and I made 3 passes. I was having a problem with my 9 inch converter because it was only stalling to around 3500-3600 rpms making for a horribly slow launch and it reflected in my 60' times. Look below at my sig. for the best run of the night. Yesterday I had an 8 inch custom converter put in and it should stall to around 5200 which will put me right into my powerband and Ihope to hit high 1.4 60's once I put in 4.30 gears. I didn't get to test the new converter out because the track rental I was going to attend today got rained out. Sunday Ill be going to Englishtown to race and weigh my car, so I hope it turns out to be a nice day. What do you guys think? Can it go 10.9 without going to bigger gears, or a 26" tire? Im going to try out these et streets that are 26x11.5x16's to see if I can drop another tenth or two. Any tricks I should try or any suggestions are welcome. Thanks Johnny

i ran the car tuesday in 90 degree heat and it went 11.40 at 123 mph with a 1.67 60' and this is cause the converter only held to 4200-4300, oh and this was opn the 16in. et streets. I figured out the problem ....I i hold the t-brake and mash the gas the stall goes stright to about 4500 and climbs up to 5000+ and i want to launch at 5200. Anyone know if this is hurting the converter or trans? I thought when holding the t-brake button and mashing the gas it should go to the optimum stall of the converter or what its rated at and mine is made to stall at 5200. Let me know what you guys think. Later

It doesn't hurt the converter or transmission but you don't want to stay on the transbrake for very long because of the amount of heat it builds. Activate the transbrake once you stage and only come off idle enough to slightly load the engine. When you see the first yellow come on, go to WOT. At the last yellow, let go of the transbrake button.
Having the rpms climb higher than 4500 like that sounds like the converter is slipping and probably needs a rebuild. Then again , the engine could be bogging at 4500 from anything such as lack of fuel, then picks up and goes to full stall. You could use a 2-step wired into the ignition and transbrake button to hold the rpms to a lower launch rpm.
Rated stall speed is only an estimate. The rpm a converter stalls at depends on how much torque is put into it.
Give me tire diameter, finish line rpm, finish line mph and rear end gears and I'll tell you how much the converter is slipping.
As for the slow 60' times, you could be hitting those small tires too hard at such a high stall and you're spinning for the first few feet out of the hole. Using a 2 step to launch at a lower rpm can soften the hit on the tires and allows a bit of time for the converter to flash.
