GAFBA shootout such a blast! PICS!
had tons of fun down there at the gafba shootout today at Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds, GA. car only went a best of 13.33 @ 100mph, but the air was CRAP and we had a headwind...so, no 12's for me...yet! anyway, here are some pics of mostly me that my g/f took.
shortly after we got there and folks were starting to show up

thanks man! that was kinda the idea here...although i would like to get some nice Centerline Warriors for the car. 15x4 up front and 15x8.5 in the back.
gonna go back to the track when it gets a bit cooler and see about throwin' some 12's down. it was simply too hot and too much of a headwind to do it this past weekend

yeah its been too hot lately for anything. I say let it cool down some within the next few weeks and bust that 12 sec. ET you've been looknig for. Car looks good man and I do like that black wheel/white car look. the only thing that could possibly ruin the Sleeper look is the hood....but then again, everyone thinks SC ThirdGens are slooowwww anyways

Anyways man, Considered TelStars or Convo Pros for your car? Both look awesome and are around the same price as the Warriors I believe....just a thought. I know Im going with Convo Pro's on my Stang.

nice. wished those times were mine, but with the headwind and the air being so bad, i didn't have a chance to break into the 12's.

man...what's it run n/a? my best 60' was a 1.77 that day, but has gone 1.750. normally i'd have been in the 13.0's, with 12.9's on the horizon...but this is all n/a mind you. the motor is hurt now and i don't have the heart to finish it off with some spray...yet! LOL! planning on a forged 350 come christmas time, or maybe even sooner! it WILL make a solid 325rwhp n/a and i'll hit it with a 200shot occasionally, i hope!
It runs 13.8s on motor. I have the converter setup for the nitrous so it's real tight on motor. My combo is sr torquer 305s, tpis big mouth base, edelbrock runners, .211in .219ex. .530in .560ex. with 1.6s, vigilante 2800 7 disc converter, with a pig rich tune. I hope to get it leaned out and tune it to some high 11's. The car also weights 3500 with me in it. This winter I'm putting a turbo buick in it.

nice. very impressed. good to see other 305's on the boards makin' it happen! i really want to go 12's before i pull this motor, but if it doesn't happen, oh well. i've got nearly no compression in my #7 cylinder and i am just prayin' it holds together long enough to get me to work and back for a while so i can get the new motor built.

Hey Chikn I saw you as well- I was hanging around Matt in the pits, I had the bone stock white w/red stripes '88 hardtop Iroc. Stock 188,000 mile longblock with manifolds, AC and free mods. I went 15.11 @ 92.12 that day.
I would have never guessed you had a 305 in that car!
Here's Matt with his trophy for best 60' on street tires- they considered anything with grooves to be a street tire, so his ET street radials did it.

Had to resize the pics so they'd post.
Matt with his trophy. NOTE! He had on a clean shirt and changed into this to crawl under his car.

My car launching, first time Matt had launched a stick and was afraid he'd break it, probably because he didn't want to have to drop me off at the Greyhound bus station so I could get back home to Savannah

man eric, that last pic of my car looks mean as hell! frickin' awesome! anyway, i really had a blast this weekend, got sunburned like crazy on my head, but oh well...
yeah, driving that stick was scary man, i thought i was going to break it or something! wanted to be sure that if i was breaking anything that weekend, it was my own stuff...15.96 wasn't too bad for never driving a stick before though!

Thanks for the compliments guys. I just got finished putting in my new tranny. On my last run it hooked real hard and broke the planetary in the rear of the tranny. I had the tranny before I left but I decided not to put it in. The old tranny started to slip on the 2-3 shift after my 3rd run. Hopefully I will pick up alittle with the new one.

So you broke your tranny? I didn't see your car by the time bracket eliminations started. What tire combo are you running and is that original paint?
I'm still mad at myself for going out redlighting in the first round- I ran against a V6 4th gen that broke out with a 15.76 on a 15.87 dial, I ran 15.18 on a 15.10 dial, but I redlighted and there were no buybacks
I would have changed my dial to a 15.15 next round.
I watched as he went out in the next round- you would think that after he broke out by .011 in the previous round he would change his dial in. But no, he lost by breaking out with a 15.77.
Oh well I had a good time and it was worth the 6 hour round trip.

Sounds liek a fun time....amkes me want a ThirdGen all over again
Hell, Id be happy to get my Stang running again....if so, Ill be happy as hell if it busts a 12 second N/A pass followed by a low 12 or EVEN a high 11 Nitrous pass......I have to shut the haters up.
MW66 (Matt), Im seriously impressed by your car. I say take a week or two away from the track and then go back with a fresh look and cooler air and bust that 12 second pass.
Question, what is your timing set at? Just curious, because I KNOW in my old carb'd V8 S10, when I bumped the timing up a tad where it would barely crank over, I dropped .2 tenths in the 1/8th off that and it was a cammed 305 as well....just a thought because I want to see your car do whatm ine never oculd...run a 12 second N/A pass

i'm not exactly sure where the timing is set at, but for the track it's where it goes rrrr....rrrr....vrooom, so it's pretty advanced and it seems to really like that. the air was SO bad and the headwind was so intense that i'm convinced that's why the car went as slow as it did. normally i'm doing low 8.3's high 8.2's in the 1/8 and the car went mid 8.4's all day on sunday.
i'm sittin' pretty now and waitin' for some good air, all the while saving for my new motor!

those 1/8th times say you sohuld have a 12.8 pass in the bag. My rommates 383 cut 8.2's with occasional 8.1's back when he ran 12.8's. The headwing kicked up *** most likely. Are you staying with the 700R4 when u drop the new motor in? Id assume so isnce its obviously a built 700 and you seem to like it.
In any case, let us know what your first 12 second ET is...theres no IF, its WHEN man.

thanks for the encouragement bro! yes, the 700r4 is staying with the combo. the only thing changing is the longblock. the exhaust is staying the same, the intake/carb combo is the same, etc. and i'm painting it the same so...it'll still be a 305...errr...or...whatever....
i have alot of money tied up in the tranny/converter combo so i'd like to keep them for as long as possible.
don't worry, ya'll will be the first to know when my 12 second pass goes down!
