Headers - Et and mph
I'm curious to see about how many mph or et I would pick up by putting on some headers. I have the money for them and have already done the basic bolt ons to compliment them. Are they worth the money?

Headers are the best...In my old Iroc I had them installed and the power gain was unbelieveable. It sounded so much meaner as well. My new car already had them installed when I bought it so I didnt have to deal with having them installed again thank ***...it to 9 hours for the shop to put them in my old Z lol. I would go with EdelBrock TES I have had them in both of my cars and have nothing but good things to say about them. By the way get some kind of coating if you dont they will look like mine do....Plan to shave off around .3 and gain 1-2 mph. Good Luck

i'd have to agree.
most L98's bone stock have gone 95-97mph in great condition. mine with 150K miles on it with headers and exhaust and 2800 stall went 95-96.6 with 2.77 gears and one run hit 100mph with 3.27's, but i have yet to back that up so i'm not sure. i do think its legit cuz i'm going 80mph in the 1/8
power does pick up. especially the mid range and higher rpm power

Lost .4 off ET and gained 2 mph. I  headers.

Was that on a stock L98?
Our stock manifolds are ridiculous. One solid 2 inch log feeding 4 exhaust exits. Ridiculous.

Yeap, stock L98. The car still has the stock catback pipeing with an 80 series muffler. Went from a stock 14.8 to a 14.4 with just the headers and Y pipe. And it was 15 degrees warmer (85) when I ran the 14.4.

Headers are one of the best mods you can do to a third gen car. The stock manifolds suck and are very restrictive. On my car with just bolt ons I have shaved off 1.3 seconds over the stock times. So that proves the stock exhaust and intake are very restrictive.

And LG4 manifolds are the worst of all. Swapping TPI manifolds and Y-pipes on will help those out. A friend of mine picked up near half a second on one, and since the TPI manifolds were free from someone putting on headers, it was very satisifying.

Well im deffinately getting some headers in the near future. Looks like thier going to be a PITA to install.. but it can only make changing the plugs easier. How hard were they to put in for you guys?

Definitely a pain. Halfway done putting Hooker 2055's on. It is a VERY good time to check/change out the starter if you have any doubts about it.

Driver side was cake. Passenger side required me to jack the motor up to drop it in, and modify a wrench to reach the last bolt near the firewall.

headers are much easier without power steering or A/C....another reason you should all build cars like mine.

Well, maybe I can bring it into Auto class at school and use the lift, should be easier from the bottom. If not, Ill just all that stuff off to where I can slide them in.
