looking to build a new 10in. tire car

i'm thinking bout getting bac into drag racing and some street racing. i have a 92 rs and wondering how hard and time comsuming it will be to get rid of all the emmisions, fuel injection and other crap, and put a carb'd motor in. last time i built a car it had a moddified tpi set up on it. if it helps i am thinking bout building a 396 stroker or stroking a 400 or even destroking a 400 to meet some rules and regulations.

Um its not hard to get rid of all that stuff. Just get out the wire snips and go at it.

its not that hard to remove all that stuff.... just start yanking it all out. pull the wiring harness and get one for basic muscle car. just wiring it up would probly be the hard part.

a 406 is a nice choice... good cubic inches and makes good power. very popular

krazd! wow!
where do you race at ? havana? joliet ?
and what class ? or you just mess around on the streets or a local town track ?

i am right by you in lincoln,

hard to find racer type persons around here, actually rare,

its not hard ot go from FI to carb, simple actually, just swap fual tank sender unit and remove the FI harness and ECM, the emissions stuff and TVs's and sensors and such all come off with all that

couple hours or less on the tank, and half that on wiring,

easy as cake

good luck

Sorry to go off topic, but its nice to know that there are a few other thirdgeners into racing around the area. I moved here to Peoria in april and trying to find time to get back to racing more than just a couple of times a year....BTW has any one heard anymore on the track at Minonk?

Sounds like a good idea. I take it that it is south? How long does it take you to get there from Champaign?

Have you been to Havana yet? I run 2 cars 3 weekends a month there. New owners 2 years ago, many updates. Maybe we'll see ya down there next year. Looking to build a tube 3rd gen for next season.

Haven't raced there since gebhardts took it over, went down to watch one day though, they have made some great improvements though. Last time I raced there the bumps at the starting line were so bad that I couldn't launch off of the limiter. That was a year before they took over though, the line looks much better now. I want and try to make it there at least once a month though, I like them racing on Sunday. Probably try to run for points at Cordova though. What classes and what do you run down there?

We run my 87 GTA once in a while, 3 weekends a month we run 2 2nd gen T/As. Blue with silver lightening bolt one has a 383 sbc, and the primered one has a 406 Pontiac. I have been looking for a 3rd gen hardtop bird to put my 383 in. Looking to tub it, needing at least a 14" tire to hold it, at least most of the time. If I don't find on soon, I'm going to build a 92 Grand Am with the 383 for next season. Son-in-law has to take some time off, maybe a few years. I don't have time to spare, so I'll build another while I still can. Look me up if you come down. I park in the grass, blue & white Itasca A class motor home.

Sounds good, I'll look you up in a few months, ready for warmer weather and to get back to the track.
