People tend to forget it is all about FUN. Bracket racing levels the field for anyone good and/or lucky enough to win. At that race my reaction times were .530, .515 and .519. I lost two of them because car broke out, ran too fast. Won one by getting a jump on slower car, my .515 against his .647 that I passed him and cruised to finish.

If you can see on the front of the car is a stripetaker that is 3'' off the ground at rest, Basicly a mudflap on the nose I noticed that H Spires had one too on his 10.5 car streetcar and that can be a very effective tool for B/R in 3gens

Stripe taker drives some of the other racers nuts. We don't use them but some do. We always check so we know if we need to get in front of tire or whole car. There is a silver street vette that has one in footbrake.

Bracket racing - chess at 100 mph.

Heads-up "street-night" racing - cowboys and indians during recess.

If you ever get to the finishline and apply your #2 or #3 option(brakes)
And you end up breaking out and gaining mph then you need one
The reason being is the long nose overhang on 3gens in front of the tires will trip the beams on the brakes
After i put it on mine it consistantly breaks the finish line beams on the brakes or not

When the deal came down I shallow staged, turned the bottle on and left off the brake
my 7.50 left him and his boys w/that priceless look

I've done that with my truck. Gone out for street legal racing and made a bunch of 15.0 passes. Later get staged beside a mustang I knew ran high 13's. I turned on the NOS and ran a low 13. I think it was something like 13.3's.

Not bad for a 4600 pound daily driven truck.

Winning rounds in a race gets the juices flowing
But when you have a little surprise in a grudge race and win its a little sweeter

I'm one of the guys that never really goes to the track to watch. If I'm up in the stands, its because I:

A) broke something
B) waiting in line
C) watching a friend's pass

Its boring to watch the races IMO, unless its someone you know. I have fun watching friend A race friend B, but two guys I don't know? I probably would lose interest quickly.

IMO, heads-up racing is more fun to watch, especially with the street cars, because you don't know which is the faster car untill the race is over, and you don't see "10.49" on one guys windsheild, and "1:49.49" on the car in the next lane over. Thats like giving away the ending before the movie even started.

i didnt read every post, but what i skimmed over seems to agree with what i think..

drag racing is boring to watch. period.. with the exception of the all out pros and spectacles like jet cars, most people dont want to watch.
the racers, dont even want to watch... unless you're watching a friend, or a competitor, you're just there to run/race..

now DOING it... thats a whole 'nother story!
its fun as hell... and like five7kid said... its triple digit speed chess.
heck even 1/8mile tracks can be fun that way.

now i do disagree with the "street night sucks" comments... afterall, theres a reason MOST of the tracks income comes from that stuff... theres alot more street guys who want to "see what they can do" or grudge race, then there are guys with actual race cars... and as we all know, most people dont understand bracket racing.
and this may just be local, but the general feeling towards it is that its crap.. everyone wants to run heads up, but they cant... so they just dont race..
as ive been told by many"sport compact" cars in the past... im a different "class" then them... lol or another BS excuse..

until you educate and change the perception of bracket racing to the younger generation, its not going to be popular.

but even if you accomplish that, its still going to be boring to watch unless you konw the people involved.

Ya. It may very well be a 79. Jimmy is one of the most consistant drivers I have seen.
