Am I in need of a vacuum reserve?

I've had the 406 running a couple times now, and I've noticed I cant get hardly any stall out of the converter, the car just wants to push through it. This same converter stalled at 2500 without any problem behind my very mild 350 with a 214/224 cam.

Is this new cam just not giving me enough vacuum for the power brakes? I have't put a guage on it yet, but i'm guessing thats what the deal is.

your car is pushing through the converter easier because your motor is making more power. I would put a much larger stall behind the 406 with that cam. 3500 stall would be what i would run. As for power brakes, i've been in cars with 260 duration .550/.560 lift and still running factory brake setups. A reserve can is nice, but i don't think your problem is from lack of vacuum unless the pedal gets rock hard to push down which doesn't seem like you're describing that.

the converter is rated at 3500, but its just a cheap one I had from before. The pedal doesn't get hard, car just pushes.

Im having the same problem. I am also running a 2700-3000 jegs 10" stall.

My car pushes through at about 2200. I am running the comp xr282hr cam.

Have you fixed your problem

One other thing to consider is the vehicle weight, and brake bias. After lightening my car up, it wants to push through the stall alot sooner, I since have installed a manual brake setup and went to a adjustable prop valve, I just had to do some fine tuning on the prop valve to get the brake bias where I wanted it at, enough to hold on the line, and not too much so as the back end wants to lock up when i get on the brakes after a pass. I found that with just playng with the prop valve I was able to get an extra 500 RPM at the line.

Just cause you have a 3500 converter in the car dosent mean it will stall at 3500 with your foot on the brake. My friend has a 3000 stall converter and it will burn the tires off at 2000, but if he holds it at 1800 then launches it will flash to somewhere around 3000 (if he dosent spin). It is a cheap 3grand jeggs 700r4 converter.
