First time at the track today...
Well, I had a pretty dissmal showing today out at the drag strip. First time racing anything lol. I was pretty nervous. Anyways...
My camaro consists of a 350HO crate engine, 2055's, 80 series catback, K&n, edelbrock 600 carb w/ .43 nozzle, purple springs, rods, and .104 secondary jets. new stock LG4 fuel pump, spohn sfcs&wonderbar, a 700r4 with shift kit, intrax springs, gr2 shocks/struts, and open 2.73s. slp zr1s with 245/45/17 kumhos deliver the rubber.
My first run was helacious, floored it from a dead stop, went through the first 3 gears spinning... cut a 3 second 60ft and over 13 seconds in the 1/8.
horrible...
My second run was a lot better, but i still had to baby it from the light. ran a 14.9 at 96mph. 60ft was a 2.6...still really bad.
I've noticed that my intrax springs have thrown my lca geometry off, which was probably most of my traction problems right there. i know my open end and with anemic 2.73s was the other half of my problem.
I have 3.42s and moog iroc springs sitting right here. with a posi, gears, springs, and spohn lca's, i feel i should be running high 13's with more seat time at the track.
any comments or suggestions? areas I need to improve upon? I was dissapointed today, but at least i have a baseline to improve upon.

put a set of lca relocation brackets on it before ANYTHING else...trust me, this will help a ton.
then, a set of drag radials. find a set of old 15x8 steel wheels or something like that, get a set of 275/50/15 m/t ET Street Radials. you'll be happy you did.
then, the posi
then, a better set of gears.
all in all, for something that's been lowered and has 17's on it with the poor gear, you did very well. have you raced much before?

I haven't raced any before.
I figured the lowering springs were hurting me, i got Moog iroc springs from spohn sitting here beside me in a box, waiting to go on, maybe tomorrow possibly.
my 3.42s are here in a box as well. speedo gears in the mail.
my next paycheck i'll probably get spohns boxed lcas and some brackets to go with that.
i really want to get a junkyard 10 bolt, scrap it out, and then build that up with gears, posi, axles, etc.

Nice to see you finally got it to the track!
We need a better run to determine what your car is capable of. There is a point when tire spin will increase MPH and then there is a point of ridiculous wheel spin causing a mph loss- I think you are at that point.
I would like to see you car go at least 103-105 mph. Probably with tuning and traction you will be there

hey seth, thought you might show up over here!
once i straighten my traction problem out, is my new stock fuel pump and 600eddy carb holding me back?
I've been eyeing either a demon or holley avenger...but tractions first! always one step ahead of what i really need to do lol.

get some tires and relocation brackets FIRST THING! lol! then you can go to a new carb.
is the fuel pump your using a stock mechanical pump? my father and i are both using the stock mechanical pumps and are both running very low 12's on a consistant bases, with my father dipping into the 11's every now and then.

While I'm on board with suggestions, I would personally recommend POSI and then tires, a good drag racing tire will over shadow the pinion angle problems with your lowered car since hp numbers are low enough currently. then once you have 2 tires that have traction you can move onto other things laid out here. Your fuel delievery system is just fine and not holding you back, like mw66nova already pointed out and many other here will agree, the stock pumps will need to be pushing some serious hp before they are out performed and cant keep up.

If you only had to do one, I'd get some ET Streets or ET Street radials before posi. Just make sure to rotate them every time.

ok, so i took my camaro in today to have my iroc springs put on. working 60+ hours over here at the squadron, but anyways. don't have as much time as i'd like to fiddle with my car.
those springs should fix my angle, and i'll be getting brackets very soon, if not also spohns boxed lcas.
well i'm glad to hear positive comments on the fuel pump, didn't want to change that again.
I'm on the lookout for a posi to go with my 3.42s...
i had also replaced my detent cable the day before i went to the track. i had set WOT, but hadn't set cable length using the slider deal. both of those are now squared away as of last night. shifts smoother, and a little quicker.
will be addressing my traction problems and lack of gears before anything else. thanks for the help!

IMO from having been there done that, getting a posi unit alone with some moderate street tires will provide you consistant traction at the current level. I was going 1.90-.95 consistantly in the 60's on some cheap azzed 235/65-15's my first year so I know it can be done. kind of my thinking with getting posi before slicks, now if you had 350+hp, some currently deep gears then that would change everything, but as it sits you just need 2 tires that need to grab instead of 1, plus a little more time in the drivers seat to learn your car on a race track.
Sadly standard radial tires on a race track is like trying to get traction when it's snowing outside, race tracks need soft rubber and as much contact patch as possbile to perform properly for max traction.

i noticed the track was composed different than the street, as i smoked the first 3 gears on my first run haha.
I should be close to the 350HP mark, at least at the crank. my crate engine's rated at 320 from the factory...
even with my current set-up, if i had more seat time racing at the track, i think i could get mid-low 14's as is. guess i'll have to save that for next weekend.
hope resetting the lca angle with these stock springs going on will help.

In your exact position, I was having fuel delivery problems. My best at the time was an inconsistant 13.9 @ 102, spinning the tires and surging. Swapped to a Speed Demon 650 mechanical secondary carb and a holley 110 gph mechanical and went 12.93 and 12.88 in good air at 105/106. Consistant 13.0's, picked up almost a full second and 4 mph.

little update for anyone that was following this thread...
The Moog Iroc springs are in, so my LCA angle is dead straight. The back end seems to sit 6 inches higher than it did with the intrax springs on. I will order some relocation brackets in the near future, and maybe also spohns boxed lcas.
For the edelbrock, I added a stubstack, bump the accelerator pump up to the top hole, adjusted the floats, and went from 100 primary jets, 101 secondary jets, to 104 and 107 respectively. Added one step richer rods as well. Still purple springs.
Raced a 4th gen z28 from a roll up to 80, and seemed to have maybe 2 feet on him when we hit traffic...dunno if it was stock or not...
