Back to track - this time with 6 speed....

Well I ll lay down the ground work, about a month ago installed a 6 speed in the 87 TA because I am sick of Autos - so figured I could break the 10 bolt with this easier, being that 1.38s with an auto just would not do it

Installed 117,000 mile t56 with original clutch, drove minimal due to clutch worn out, and no beating at all.. Saved for a specIII (Chatter, chatter, chatter)
Trying to follow break in rules so did not beat - Yesterday went to track finally but with no seat time and no launching at all..

Spec does not like to slip at all.

First pass, tried to slip it out at 4000 - come out ok then spun pretty hard..

1.869 60ft
11.4 @ 124.3
Short shifted at 6000

Second pass less RPM faster release and bogged.

1.96
11.4 @ 125.4
Raised shift light to 6100

Third pass, slipped out again with little more slip, but to much

1.82
Missed 3rd!!!!!!!!!! ahhhg, thats embaressing and totally unexpected - was very sure I would not do that... then that really played with my head!
But after missing third - put directly in 4th and drove part throttle rest of way
13.2 @ 79

Last pass, tried to release hard again with less air - by this time track was slippy due to moisture in air..
Spun hard, let off bogged..

11.6 @ 127.1 shifted @ 6200-6300

Was very happy with first pass ever, especially knowing I should do much better on 60ft.. shifts were very crisp I think with exception of one being to crisp..
MPH was where I expected..
Is very hard to 60ft with the 3.73s and spec clutch - it grabs alot - its kinda like a switch. With a 4.30ish gear should be much, much easier and faster..

With a 12 bolt and dumping should be back in 10s..

Was very dissapointed in self!! Though being first time ever at tarck with standard and first time ever "really driving" my car with that trans I should not have expected so much... Other problem, should not have lined up with slick cars - could hardly hear what my car was doing... Think that would have helped atleast till i get used to.

Tom, I used to have a SPEC stage III clutch assembly, on a light aluminum flywheel, when I had my Tremec TKO. That clutch was an "either on, or off" clutch. I also hated the Tremec, because the shifting was cumbersome. You have a T56 however, and I'll bet its better than my old set up. That was the whole reason I went with the auto. Honestly, I never thought you would convert over. I guess you wanted to row the gears, as you are opposite, and got sick of the auto...LOL. Once you get the launch down, you will be on your way. The higher shift points really upped the MPH. Maybe a 4.11 gear might help. So that T56 shifts pretty good huh?

The spec seems to be getting better, actually seems to drive better since I beat it a little. The 4.11s will make things much, much better and easier.
But if I ever spring for a 12 bolt than it will probably have 4.30s.
I have heard bad about the t56 shifting-but have to say I think I was hitting them pretty well, as front does not seem to drop hardly.

The high 1st is a killer though, 2.66 compared to 2.95/3.35 of t5s and TKO.
So that combined with 3.73 and really sticky clutch made things difficult..

Not to bad for first time ever with no seat time at all - not even really driving.. Little embarrassed being it should have gone much better - but thats the only reason I posted it, because I know I will improve alot on it.
Seemed last pass I actually would have had a decent one, but my tarck is a POS and does not prep at all.

Friend offered to lend me his 12 bolt so I can do some 5-7000 rpm dumps but don't think I am going to yet. Was actually going to travel out to Norwalk ohio tonight and get some more passes, but weather seemed iffy.
