Smog heads are only considered smog heads when using flat top pistons which produces low compression ratios because of the 76cc combustion chambers. Large open chambers unshroud the valves and help the engine breath better. Bump up the compression with some dome pistons and you make more HP.

With some 2.02/1.60 valves and just some basic port work, any "smogger" head will perform well.

i have to be honest and say that at the BEST I would imagine those heads to perform one second ET slower than what you posted. I'm really shocked that a cam that small, a performer intake, and the rest of your combo netter you a 11.47 at 117mph. That is faster than every post i've seen with a vortec headed combo at the track, by .4 and 4mph. The vortecs should blow those heads out of the water for low-mid lift flow. IF those times are real I just have to say congrats.

Power to weight puts it in the 385 - 405 hp to the wheels. Still a little high with such a small cam.

Those cam specs don't make any specs. Got a cam part number? It's sounds like it's a Stock Eliminator camshaft grind. Low lift and tons of duration. Engine probably doesn't idle below 2000. The 4000 stall conveter is probably good for that cam but should have more gearing.

I google'd the cam and found this: Motor Parts Central: - Speed-Pro Performance Chevy Small Block Camshafts 262-400 cid.

Thanks.

That's still an extreme camshaft. Comp Cams doesn't even list one with that much duration and such low lift. That's where all the power is coming from.

224 @ 0.050 is a big duration? Also I don't see how old nascar slicks would hook well enough to run that 60'

With only .436" lift, yes. The lift should be somewhere in the mid to high .4xx range with that much duration and 300 advertised for such a small lift cam is huge.

Cascar not Nascar. Cascar slicks are a hard rubber, tiny tire. I've known a few people who have used them. You can pick up used ones pretty cheap but they're not a drag slick.

yeah my signature is old, i run et drags 26 x 10 @ 14 lbs, and your right that camshaft doesnt exist. its a custom grind! i think it does have an extreme energy exhaust lobe. its a fast one i know that. sorry again my sig is old its got 498 lift intake 480 exh, dur is around 278 int. sorry if i mislead i just havent been on this site in a long time so i havent updated it! its a performer rpm intake 750 dp, flat top pistons dual valve relief just a coated speed pro, block zero decked approx 9:1 , stock rods arp bolts, stock crank, block 0.060 over, one 441 head one 126 head(same heads, flow 245 at .500) 3 angle, roller rockers, no exh, about 12 " worth of collectors. I was plannin on the car running 80's-90's but it went 11.47. I was shocked!!! I also reweighed the car today it was 3050lbs me in it and half a tank of fuel. i shudda updated my signature before i posted that, lol, if u wanna see a vid clip of it go on myspace www.myspace.com/stevefoster1985, then click on videos, u have to have a myspace account to watch it tho. sorry about the confusion!

I was going to post a great big BS flag. That was a significantly more tame combo than I have, and I'd bet I have a hard time going low 13's.

278* intake advertised duration?

How'd you get the car so light?

Still, I think you've done damn well, I only hope I can go 11.5!
