How fast can i go with this car?
I've recently been posting some new times for this HSR intake swap on my stock L98 and so far i've been impressed!
made 246 whp at 5050 rpms and estimated near 300wtq at somewhere around 3400-3500rpms. it made 283 wtq at 4000rpms
My previous TPI best in the winter was a 1.75 60 foot on way to 13.63 at 97 or so.
In the summer time so far, the HSR has been 13.49 at 99 on a 1.77 60 foot.
My question is how much faster can i go?
I have basic bolt ons but what i was thinking of adding was some underdrive pullies, deleting the smog pump and stuff, possibly 3.73 gears as the car seems to want 3.73 gears to match the big 26.2 inch ET streets. i'm not quite crossing at 5000rpms yet. maybe some 1.6 rockers down the road? maybe long tube headers if i start getting closer to 12's?
my buddy says his dad's camaro went 12.8's at 99 mph so i want to see how far i can push my car.
I feel that there is lower 13.4's in the car as it sits just by playing with shift points and if i can get the brakes to hold abit higher brake stall off the line. Also colder air will help me some more.
Do you think its possible to shave near 3 tenths off with 3.73 gears, 1.6 rockers, tuning to match, and underdrive pullies? i figure possible 5-10whp with pullies if they do work, and another 10whp with the 1.6 rockers. possible hp from tuning. 3.73 gears could shave near .1 seconds.
if it comes down to it, longtubes should add some power.
Do you think its possible to hit 12.99 on those mods? maybe with a set of drag wheels and skinnies for less rotating mass i think i might be damn close

The gears and underdrive pullies should be you're next mods They will get you around .2-.3 quicker. The 1.6 RR's most likely WONT net you 10rwhp nor will they help much with the stock cam. I would recommend a bit bigger cam and some springs, maybe a cc305 or lt4 hotcam kit. Also a cutout for the exhaust would help ALOT.

lt4 hotcam maybe port n polish your heads or get the summit heads with it and you will most likely see 12.8's! btw are you running street tire, DR or slicks?

Re: How fast can i go with this car?
i wanted to do the cam and probly will end up doing a hotcam sometime later or if i'm lucky maybe this fall or winter.
but for now, i want to see how far i can push this stock L98.
I'm running on 26x11.50x16 ET streets. I know they are abit bigger than i need but i got a deal on them slightly used so i couldnt pass them up.
I think the gears will definatly help me some since the tire is so big, but i only expect a tenth or so out of that. pullies i have heard both good and bad, some say they work some say they dont. but they are on order and should ship out next week. soon as i get those in i'll try the car again at the track to see if i get any improvements from smog delete and underdrive pullies
1.6 rockers i would expect to make some solid power gains, since stock cam is .415/.430 and that would put it at a more respectable .442/.458. that increase in lift should get some good airflow in and also maybe raise duration a degree on both lobes.

if you decide to put the larger rockers on, don't skimp. spend the money on a nice set of Comp Pro-Magnums. you'll appreciate the initial investment when you go to a larger cam/heads later

skip the underdrive pullies, they're not worth the cost.
more stall, you want the stall speed to be at peak torque

Re: How fast can i go with this car?
How does the car leave (the line) now? Dead hook, no wheel spin? I would think with those big tires stick pretty durn good with stock gears and converter. I would think 3.73's would work ok, the HSR won't mind the RPMs at the line as much as stock TPI would, I can't see it hurting the top-end with those big tires. Coverter looks good, doesn't have to be outrageous, but 500rpms different on the launch can make or break a 60ft, which is about the most critical thing to your et.

Re: How fast can i go with this car?
well M/T site says they are 26.2 inch and thats alot bigger than my 245/50/16 street tires which are 25.7 inches tall lol really a difference in acceleration between the two. And they are abit wider too so to me they are kinda big
Anyway i dead hook when the tires are heated right and the track is prepped right. 1.7x 60 foots are the norm. I considered more stall but thats a big upgrade that i dont really wanna go for at this time. i have a 2800 now, if i was gonna upgrade i think i'd go for a 3200. peak torque is probly around 3500 now but i dont want a converter that big on the street.

Re: How fast can i go with this car?
a quality converter is fine to drive on the street. LS1 guys are daily driving 4400 stalls with no issues. More cam, more heads, etc then

Re: How fast can i go with this car?
yeah my edge drives very nice on the street except on low speed uphill climbs, then its open and rpms are up near 2800 rpms. However 3500stall or so would be nice with a LT4 hotcam or similar that i'd like to run. maybe i'll look into that.

my ATI drove like stock when locked up and was only noticable at part throttle cruise. it stalled at 4K. i'm going th350 so i'm getting rid of it.

Re: How fast can i go with this car?
yep once they lock up its nice, but that only happens at a certain speed as programmed in the chip. If your under that speed, then uphill climbs suck! haha
Any ideas on what i stand to gain by going to drag wheels and skinnies? thats some weight reduction and rotating weight reduction as well

i dropped .3 when i bought those Weld Rodlites. the drop in rotating mass was INCREDIBLY noticable.

i gained .3 from switching to pro stars and manual steering on my old 305 combo, used to do 11.60s on a 150 shot.
