Re: Update: Finally finalized my build plans

Sounds like that is OK. The HSR port can be smaller than the AFR port.

I have some fair size jumps from my First intake manifold ports to the Dart Pro One ports. The Dart Pro One being bigger in size. Some of the head guru's say that is a good thing and it helps on reversion.

Re: Update: Finally finalized my build plans

I will be very interested in how your project turns out. You should be able to get your 400rwhp. Eager to see the dyno results.

Edit: I think your new 383 motor will be in before I get mine converted over to the 4L60E transmission.

Re: Update: Finally finalized my build plans

I love how new shortblocks look

Looks good dude, hope the build comes together without a hitch. Black transfers heat alot better then red would. Painting under your intake white would help with that as well.

Re: Update: Finally finalized my build plans

everyone tells me black is better for the heat, but i dont think red is too far off. I've heard reports when i was doing research for my senior engineering project that it didnt make a whole lot of difference on computer chip heat sinks whether they were painted white or black. Any paint helped over nothing at all. Black was best, but white was only like 3% difference.

Re: Update: Finally finalized my build plans

i didint read this whole thread but those scat rods are fine. i have used them with a 250 shot and 7500rpms with no issues. rods looked and checked fine when i tore the engine down for freshing up last season.

my combo was a scat 9000 cast crank in a four bolt block, scat 6 inch ibeam rods, je pistons, 11.3:1 compression, dart pro1 alum heads 230cc runners unported, a mech roller cam with .632 lift and 255 duration at .050 on a 106 center, holley strip dominator manifold with a 850 cfm hp holley carb. this was in a 70 nova and best times i got out of it was a 10.84@ 125mph and a 10.08 @ 132mph on a 200 shot.

Re: Update: Finally finalized my build plans

forgot to update, i went with fully forged setup, eagle crank, eagle H beam rods, and SRP forged pistons

Its built to handle a big shot reliably i guess. My compression is high but should be ok with nitrous in teh 150-200 shot range

Re: Update: Finally finalized my build plans

went with red and did a quick mock up to give an idea of what it will look like.

Keep in mind the accessory brackets are black, so are the valve covers, and not sure what i'm gonna do the waterpump/timing chain cover in. Gold oil pan i dont think i will paint that.

Re: Update: Finally finalized my build plans

been awhile....

motor is ready to drop in and button up once its in the car.... still need to figure out the exhaust before i can start it up. NO 02 sensor bungs on the headers so i'll have one put on the extensions i bought for the headers. then i gotta figure out how to run the dual exhaust

Jethot coated 2210 hookers

Mallory 685 hyfire VI ignition box

Edge racing 3500-3600 stall is here. Some wiring connectors here and ready to replace some of my old harness's connectors.
Nice week this week so i hope to have it in soon and ready to start.

Not 100% sure how i'm gonna go break it in. I wanna get on it fairly hard at first but cant go driving it around to much on open headers i'm sure

Re: Update: Finally finalized my build plans

yeah i bought the hedman s xtensions and they seem to work ok. I'll have to cut and reweld them to shorten the striaght section to get it to fit better but not sure yet

I'll know for sure when the motor is in and the headers are mounted

Awesome Build Justin!
I can't wait to see it run! I'll bet you can't wait more though!
You should keep that plenum off and throw 2 4brls up there! J/K.
That cam should really love the nitrous, and even Boost with that long exhaust duration, even with a 109 LSA. Just for fun years ago I threw my p600 on my Camaro, with a 106 LSA cam 240/250 duration knowing the tight lsa would loose alot of boost - it loved it! Car trapped 3 mph better than with the blower cam making 3 lbs less. Just had zero vacuum and was having trouble getting a bog out of it even with dual 50cc accelerator pumps.
That is Kinda odd cam though, being AFR's have one of the best I/E ratios out
there. It will not hurt one bit though, especially if you are running exhaust -and may help that intake pull more to with the overlap.

Need any help tuning, let me know.

Yeah thats what I thought when i saw the specs but it seems that is how this guy grinds his cams.. large duration splits with tight LSA's. Usually makes for a wide flat hp powerband up topend after peak... like a road race grind so power doesnt fall off bad. I do like that. Plus i DO want to run nitrous shot of some sort.. maybe a 150-175 shot depending on how fast the other pills take me

And yes, if i need any help tuning i'll let you know. I have a base tune for it and will be working with that. Hopefully its close enough that i dont have to make a whole deal of changes

Any ideas what this thing may run in a 3400lb race weight? I'm still using 3.42 gears for now. 10 bolt i HOPE lasts as long as yours did. If i can find a 3.73 for cheap i'll have those put in but for now its no rush

An optimally geared 3400 lb car with 400 rwhp should run 11.3 @ 115 mph.
That's geared to be a drag car with sufficient traction.
115 mph with a 3.42 gear/1:1 trans ratio and a 26" inch tire would be under 5100 rpm. 3.73's get you a little over 5500. All that 383 torque notwithstanding, you may still need more rear gear to realize the cars potential. I did a little survey a while back and most of the 12 to 11 sec n/a powered cars had 4.10's or better and large stalls (3500+) or sticks.

With those new eliminator on a stout 383 I would imagine is well capable of lower 11s and maybe high 10s optimized with 4000ish converter and more gear.. But with that stealth ram, which makes more TQ than a mini ram, may like the 3.42's! No matter what it will be a fun ride, and very fast.
If tyou keep the MASS AIR, make the intake tract as short as possible, and use some sort of cold air feed, maybe not sealed but aimed at the intake.
With that small mass air, the longer you make the intake tube the more it will hurt. Alot of Vettes run well with it, their air intake is totally straight and about 15" long total. Running MY SLP cold air hooked up with 3" pipe in place of mass air, my car would drop 3/10s+ as opposed to straight throttle body, but I had the long tube with airbox on inner fender.

Re: Update: Finally finalized my build plans

i do consider the MAF intake system to be a restriction. I'll run as is for now and then make a CAI setup with a short track with cold air feed. Should improve i hope. we'll see i'll test it

But yeah, since this is a street strip car i'll run abit less stall speed and abit less gear for now. Edge racing actually said 3800-4000 may be too much for this setup. Considering HSR torque curve, it may like a smaller converter and 3.73 gear which i plan to run soon as the car is running and tuned up. Just dont wanna spend much on the 10 bolt But if i run nitrous the slightly smaller stall will become larger and bring me up to around 3800-4000 with a 150-175 shot. SO thats perfect

Hopeing to go ahead and get the motor in tomorrow but we'll see

Yep i think you will see better then 115mph at least. My weight is pretty much the same with the set up below.

Im changing out the dish pistons for some Mahle flat tops and a set of AFR's just dont know how big yet, I'm leaning to the 210's, mostly because my car is a drive it to the track, run it, and drive it back, and to work some days.

As with others, Im VERY interested to see what your HSR set up will run with the 195's and that cam.
