Hello, this is my first post on this site. I like what I see here. I would like to start by saying that I fully realize the only way to get your E.T. is to take the car to the track, which I fully intend to do. Stuff just keeps going wrong and the suspense is killing me (tranmission input shaft breakage, head gasket replacement, carb rebuild, and on and on). I have an estimated E.T. for this car, but what I was wondering if anyone knows any members of this board with a car similar to mine, and what kind of E.T.'s they run. The car is in my signature, but here are the details again:

1984 Camaro, 3/4 tube chassis with 10 pnt roll cage, all steel body and hood, all glass windows, 5 gallon fuel cell, 467 BBC with 12.5:1 CR, pocket ported GM iron 049 cylinder heads, 2.19/1.88 valves, single plane Weiand intake, 1050 Dominator carb, 1 7/8 Hookers, 0.595/0.595" lift 249/249 degress duration camshaft @ 0.050" lift, solid lift cam. Powerglide transmission with transbrake, 4200 stall, 9 inch Ford with 4.11 gears, 4 link rear suspension with double adjustable Strange coilover shocks, 31.50x14x15 rear slicks.

I also realize the 4.11's may be a little tall for this set up, and some 4.56's would definately be an improvement. I would guess this is about a 10.50 1/4 mile car. Any like E.T's, ideas, or suggestions? Thanks for any input guys and nice site!!!!!

Re: 1st Post - looking for similar cars
I had a solid cam with .638 lift that ran into the 10's. Although that cam has moderate lift, duration is very small. Something closer to 260 @ .050 would be better.

Without knowing the race weight, a rough guess is only a rough guess. Seeing as it's all steel and glass, it's probably very heavy even with a back half. It's possible it will only run low 11's.

With the tall tire, 4.11 is a street gear. 4.56 minimum reqd. Really depends where the shift point is.

Camshaft looks like a 11-219-4. Power only peaks at 6500. Not a bad street cam but not the best choice for your combination. What fuel do you intend to use?

Stephen, thanks for the reply. The Black Pearl appears to be one mean ride. You are correct on the cam, it is a Comp 11-219-4. Right now the engine has a stock GM crank and rods, so I was trying to keep the RPM a shade below 7,000. Future plans (who knows when) include 4340 forged crank and H-beams, a longer cam to crank it up into the 7500 - 7800 RPM range, and probably a 5.13 gear. Maybe when I win Pinks All Out or the lottery!!!
I also run 110 in her. I'm not serious about the competition part (yet), so this is just something to have some fun in right now. What max RPM do you turn the 540?

Let me get her back together, I'm replacing head gaskets right now. The info bar said your from Toccoa. I grew up in Canon GA, near Royston and Carnesville, about 30 minutes from Toccoa.

yeah you're right MW66nova. everyone says thats really slow for the setup that i have.the problem was that it was our first time at the track with any car, let alone a back-halved race car. we(my son and i) had far too much air in the slicks, car was under tuned, and we just didn't know what we were doing. my son drove it. he got scared on the launch and lifted, but he quickly floored it again and ran a 7.65. the car is capable of quicker times i'm sure in the hands of a much more experienced driver. a friend of mine is going to the track with us next time. he will give us pointers. i know we will better times then.

that's true. i can appreciate them doing their job, but they didn't have to be such ****** about it. i guess i shouldn't complain, they did let us run. i guess i didn't know that your seat harness has an expiration date, or your helmet has to have a certain letter on it, or the straps that hold your radiator in must be metal not plastic and so on.

i've been there a couple of times, but only as a spectator. we have never taken our car there. and you're right the cars are pretty close together.

Re: 1st Post - looking for similar cars
and they don't prep the track, and just allow the rubber to build up and ball up. it's nasty. we beat the main bearings out of a motor in my dad's racecar there a few years back due to nasty wheel hop/spin.

Re: 1st Post - looking for similar cars
i go to Silver Dollar Raceway most times, but i've been all over the place. South Georgia Motorsports Park, Commerce, shoot, i've been to Maryland International Raceway with my own junk...but i've been to almost every major racetrack on the east coast, and midwest working with other cars.

-Moroso Motorsports Park in West Palm Beach
-Bradenton Raceway, Bradenton Florida
-US 41, Albany Georgia
-Memphis
-Bristol
-Phenix City
-Savannah Dragway
-Macon National Dragway, Twiggs County GA
-Virginia Motorsports Park
-Cecil County Dragway, Rising Sun MD
-Atco Raceway Park, Atco NJ
-Pittsburg Raceway, Pittsburg PA
-Norwalk Racway Park, Norwalk OH
-Morocco IN
-Great Lakes Drag-A-Way, WI
-Corodova International Racway, Cordova IL
-multiple places in Ontario
-many more places. i've been to all the premere tracks on the east coast, and ALOT of the not-so-premere places...so, i avoid Headhunter's in Eatonton at all costs, lol!

Re: 1st Post - looking for similar cars
66 feet in front of the finish line is a timing light. When you cross the finish line, you trip the 1/4 mile timing light. The time it takes you to travel that last 66 feet is the MPH traps. Your 1/4 mile MPH is a calculation. A time slip MPH will never be as accurate as something like an in car accelerometer. Cars like mine don't accelerate very much in that last 66 feet so the MPH is almost constant for that short distance.

Re: 1st Post - looking for similar cars
Why dont you guy's let him get his car to the track before he starts to rebuild it. I'm sure he can improve but you won't know that by benchracing. I also think he has bugs to work out before he needs cam or headers. Part of the fun is sorting your car out .
