Second time out

Well, my first experience with the quarter mile didnt turn out so great. I ran a 17.4 @ 82mph and later discovered my timing to be way advanced, and my laun ch was horrible. My first run last night (second time out) turned out to be my new best. I ran a 15.86 @ 87 mph. I am driving a '91 GTA w/ LB9 305 and a 700R4. Much improvement over last time, but still I was hoping for mid to low 15's. Anywho, my 2nd and 3rd runs last night didnt turn out so well, I lost about half a second on both runs. Running 16.3 and 16.2. Anyone know why I would lose nearly half a second? My first launch was by far the best, but I wouldnt say the 2nd and 3rd launch's were that bad either. Oh well. I had a blast and can't wait to go out again.

Re: Second time out

Your car should be faster than that. My friend had a 3.4L Grand prix that ran 15.90's?

I would give it a full tune up. Plugs, wires, check the timing again and all the settings, find out if it's spinning real bad. See if the Cat is clogged and just run through the whole list. I can't see it not running high 14's?

Good luck.

Re: Second time out

Did you hot lap it or let it cool down between runs. My stock RS ran 16.6. You should be at least mid 15s. Some 3.42s would help.

Re: Second time out

It's a near stock 305, I can't see it running 14's really, but yeah it had about 20 minutes between 1st and second run. It has new plugs, wires, cap and rotor, fresh rebuild, new magnaflow cat etc... :'(

Re: Second time out

What was the DA like? Track elevation? Maybe post the full slips for all 3 passes?

Re: Second time out

I would check the cat or cats on your car and make sure they are not plugged up. My cars cat was plugged, cut it off and put on a fresh set of tires on the back, and went from 16.7 to 15.9s
