Mounting Shoulder Harnesses

This can't be great but I'm wondering just how bad. I'm in the process of making a harness bar but am moving SLOWLY.

Mounting the shoulder straps to the rear seat belt stud....the strap is not pointing downward so that is good, however, it does go off to one side. After light test fitting, it seems to stay centered when snugged down. Don't know how it would fare in a crash.

Next concern is the shearing strength of the bolt. That is the only thing holding the strap on, has to be safer than running around with just the lap belts but I'm wondering what kind of force the stud can hold up to?

Re: Mounting Shoulder Harnesses

i know people mount them like that, but its not the safest thing if you got hit in that area, and it was crumpled, it would be like having no seatbelt on at all.
in most cases its better than nothing, though.

Re: Mounting Shoulder Harnesses

the only way i'd feel comfortable would be a 4 point hoop in the rear and the harness centered onto that.

Re: Mounting Shoulder Harnesses

Build one of these, that attach to bolt rear shoulder mounts, where you currently have your Y-piece at.

Re: Mounting Shoulder Harnesses

Got any pics on the car?

Want to put in a 4 pt. bar but that will have to wait until I work out other bugs and the funds become available.
