I got 2 perfect lights today

OK, neither were during eliminations. The first one was during the second time trial run. I then lost in the first round and went back for a test and tune pass and nailed another perfect light. 2 perfect lights in 4 passes.

The first time trial run was a -.009. The first round of eliminations, I was paired against a 12.0 truck so I had to sit and wait for almost 3 seconds. I only had a .071 which was still better than his .091 but my 2-step screwed up and I lost the round.

The guy in the time slip booth gave me a high five as I picked up the second perfect light timeslip. He was happier about it than I was.

Re: I got 2 perfect lights today

Since I dont race for points or other competitive events, I never go for perfect lights so I have never cut a perfect light. That is pretty sweet tho to be that consistant. Maybe next time out I'll try for good lights. I've been .00x before but mostly in the .1xx range just because I'm not trying to hard.

When you're doing time trials or test and tune runs, perfect lights mean nothing. In competition, having a perfect light still doesn't mean you'll win the race but it does give you more of an advantage.

I'll have to back in my logs but I'd take a guess and say I haven't had a perfect light in at least 8 years now. To get 2 in one day is remarkable.

I've had two perfect lights. The first one was in 2003. The second one was in 2003. (Of course, for the first 5 or so years I raced, we didn't get RT on our timeslip.)

A perfect light in time trials is worth something here - a perfect light pin.

Re: I got 2 perfect lights today

Pins or small patches for the fire jacket would be nice. During the Friday night street legal races, a perfect light gets a free entry pass. Not too many street cars can get that perfect light and I don't know if any have done it this year. They're usually happy if they can get a .1xx light.

Although I probably won't get another perfect light for years, I should head out on the Friday nights to see if I can nail the tree again. Race cars are allowed to attend as it's still just an open track T&T. If there's a high car count, the race cars are usually lucky to get 2 hits at the tree before it gets too late. The street cars just hot lap. The race cars head back to the pits for fuel, cool down etc.

Re: I got 2 perfect lights today

Always makes you feel good for sure. I have not hit a perfect light yet, but I'm pretty decent in the .02x-.01x range; I'll take it all day for a pro tree.

I'm a very good .49x light guy on a .500 tree though, lol.

You mean there's more???

There were a couple perfect lights at the Mile High Nationals this past weekend. Matt Smith in Pro Stock Bike (first round, first pair down the track) for one.

Re: I got 2 perfect lights today

i plan to hit many with the tbrake. first pass with the new combo and the tbrake was an .025, which i don't think is too bad for still trying to "find" the tree with the new combo.

Re: I got 2 perfect lights today

The type of button used and placement are key in cutting a good/consistent light with a t-brake.

Re: I got 2 perfect lights today

I use an adjustable Moroso button and just finished adjusting it after the previous race. I thought I had it on too much of a hair trigger so I backed it off to allow more button travel.

I also use a delay box and launch off the top bulb. No distractions watching the other bulbs come on. At the first flicker of yellow on the top bulb, let go of the transbrake button and wait for the delay box to release the transbrake. I think I have 1.045 in the box. If I get constant red lights, add more delay until I can't red light. Since I only had the one red light, I left the amount of delay alone. Technically, I should add .010 in the box just to keep it safe.

Getting that perfect or close to perfect light in the pro classes with a .400 tree seems to be easy for them but I think they almost need to anticipate when the tree activates. If you launch just as all the yellows come on, you'll probably still be too slow. Having a vehicle that can do 60' in under 1 second helps.

Re: I got 2 perfect lights today

I've had a few perfect lites on the pro tree, my best was in competition last year .400 rt 7.002 in our local heads up 7.0 class. Huntsville gave me a -.0001 red one year for a loss! forget a full tree, I always get anxious and let go of the button before the top bulb comes on, then try to get back on the button to reset the box and then the tree comes on as im pushing it back down lol
