Record for stock ten bolt.

Does anyone know a current record of a stock style suspension car with a stock ten bolt? I really know I can come close or beat it. And when i mean ten bolt I mean a 7.5" ten bolt in our cars. not just any car with a ten bolt.

im guess its a mid 9 second pass. just curious

Re: Record for stock ten bolt.

Unmodified or beefed up?
Slicks or street tires?
82-89 with 26 spline axles or 90-92 with 28 spline axles?
Automatic or manual transmission?

I pushed a beefed up 10 bolt with aftermarket 28 spline axles into the 10's before swapping it out for a 9" because I also installed a transbrake in the transmission at the same time. I didn't think 4000 rpm transbrake launches would have lasted long.

12 and 13 second street cars have also broken them on the street. Pushing them into low numbers on the dragstrip especially with slicks is just being lucky.

I've been 1.41, 1.45, and 1.49 60 fts on my stock 10 bolts from a 4th gen.

87 TA has been 1.38 60ft on his i do believe

I been as fast as 9.73 at 142 on my stock 2.73 gear rear 4th gen ten bolt. I mean BONE stock rusted picked up from the junkyard for 60 bucks stock.... I've asked this question on LS1 tech before and dont recall seeing anything faster than that but no one has come forward

Re: Record for stock ten bolt.

IF i can ever tune my car to its potential and get some boost off the line, I think I will go 1.3's on the 60. IF it does that, I should be below 9.5's. Thats with 2.73's too. Those are thicker so they are stronger. I'm more worried about the carrier snapping in half which alot do before the ring gear breaks.

Re: Record for stock ten bolt.

Also depends alot on what kind of a diet you have the car on as well. Light weight is easier on parts. Even so after starting to check my car over last week, I am going to need to tear into my 10 bolt as it isn't feeling right. And that is just 1.63 short times and 2870#. Stock rear from 1984.

Funny thing about them damn 2.73 rears, mine has survived tons of punishment with no issues what so ever, but them 4.10s just let go and went out like a fart in the wind instead of a blaze of glory.

LOL, it is my wife. Was pretty funny watching it on video the first few times hearing here say that.

then my buddies car broke that night, so, it took 2 trips from Conroe to Baytown to get 2 broken cars, about 45 miles each way, LOL.

Re: Record for stock ten bolt.

this past season was the third season with 11.3x-11.5x on mine with nitrous pulling 1.58-1.60 60fts. My 10 bolt has 28 spline moser axles, c-clip eliminators, solid pinion spacer instead of crush sleeves, richmond 3.73s and a TA performance stud girdle cover. For the 2011 season, i'm gonna get a 1350 rear yoke for it so i can use a 3" chromoly driveshaft with 1350 joints along with a t-braked th400 when i put the twin 76mm motor in.

Re: Record for stock ten bolt.

Don't bother with the new shaft and a 10 bolt, I popped 5 ten bolts in a row with a transbrake and spray. It definitely won't live behind it.

Re: Record for stock ten bolt.

x2. if you can round up enough coin for a twin76 setup, you should be able to scrounge together enough for a 12 bolt/9".

we got a 1.44 60', 6.41 pass out of our 4th gen LT1 car 3 weeks ago. its on the bottle, footbrake, and it has never hit all that hard for some reason. diff is welded up, so if an axle breaks it could get a little crazy. not the best from a safety standpoint.

Re: Record for stock ten bolt.

granted these things are no 12 bolt/9" strength wise but i've seen them live and still living in the high 9s to low 10s(all auto cars) for a while now, some stock with only a gear change, nowhere near as beefed as mine. Cats and dogs don't have the same luck so some last, some don't....but i will start looking around for a 9" though just because lol.

Re: Record for stock ten bolt.

I blown out a stock 10 bolt when I dump the clutch at 5000 rpm when I racing a box Nova 66 460 big block chevy motor. I had no problems at letting it go 3500 rpms, But 5000 rpm took it out.

I have ford 9" carrie gearing and housing I just need the axles but going to sale it to a guy local he made me very good offer for them. So I built up the 10 bolt rear with base on a write up on line in 1 of the hot rod magazines.

Mosser 28 spline axles trutrac carrie new summit rear cover all bearings seals and grade 8" bolts. Tube are welded and smooth out.

The car has over I thank now maybe 60 drag strip and some street races on the new rebuild.
Best time 11:18 with 327 sbc.

total cost was $865.00 shopping around for the best price I did all the work my self.
The car will see the strip maybe few time next year but mostly a street show car
when I'm finish the extra work. If you can afford to get 12 bolt or 9" go for it.
But so far it's holding up for me. Even did few wheel stands off the line with 11.5 x 28" street strip tires.

Re: Record for stock ten bolt.

I have no doubt mine will live a while based on what it has survived before....of course if you stand on a 20+ year old stocker with some power, its not gonna like it. Those bearing support pumpkin covers make all the difference in the world on those 10 bolts....9 out of 10 times when they break its from the pinion trying to "walk" up the ring gear, the stud girdle cover just about eliminates that.

Re: Record for stock ten bolt.

seen quite a few break with the girdle cover. your still dealing with the weak case that contains all the guts. also if you are running a 4.10 gear, there is very little "mesh" between the gears. the pinion head is tiny.
after that, the axles are fairly weak.
the diff/posi is also weak. not only the case of it, but also the guts inside are small/weak.

honestly, i think most trauma is a result of the teeth breaking off of the ring/pinion. which will usually be a 4.10 gear. however, one of the locals just killed an axle shaft and everything else was fine. i have also seen the torsen diff cases crack, and even a broken bearing cap.

the car we are leaning on right now running 6.40's has a stock 3.42 gear in it and is heavily welded up. if that makes it stronger, i donno, but it was done and hasnt broke yet.
i know of one guy that got a 1.39 60' out of his for one pass with a manual trans. next one grenaded the rear. all of the parts were cryoed, which i am not sure would help anyways.

Re: Record for stock ten bolt.

my 6.26 pass was on a 1.49 foot brake 60 which was insane for my turbo car. Most of my launches are 1.55 or so and recently i've been doing 1.6's with the lower stalled converter. Still leaving off the footbrake. I'd love to see what it will do on a boosted launch on a transbrake.

Being a 2.73 gear it has alot more material I suppose. Leaving somewhat soft but having hell of a top end helps it live.

i'm not going any steeper than 3.23s in my 10 bolt when i get the turbo motor in....i'm using 3.73s now with the nitrous motor. I bet if i go out and drop $2k on a 12 bolt or 9" right now, the 10 bolt will never break...go figure

I went out today on the back roads, I ran 68 mopar 440 tech motor up to 5500 rpm that's the highest I did on it man the guy jump me by 2 cars I just spin the wheels. car all over the place rear stayed together.

The guy won $200.00 so I ask him to go again had said sure will so we up the $$$ to $600.00 it was about 27 guys with the cars out. All street tires no nos I let the car go at 3500 rpms we both jump off the sometime I beat him be 1.5 cars only shifting at 7000 rpms.

The guy whats buying the 9" rear from me is pick it up next weekend $2000.00 with out the axles. So the rest will go back in the car.

The little motor puts over 500 hp.
