How do I start Road Racing and SCCA

Hello

I am very interested in getting involved in Road racing, and scca and the sort.
How do I start?
What will I have to do to my car? I am currently looking for another one specifically for road racing, my camaro now is mainly set up for drag racing.

and any other info I might need.

Start by going to the SCCA website (has a ton of good information) at http://www.scca.org and look for the region in your area. The region website should give you the local race schedule. Get out to as many races as possible. Learn about the different classes and cars. Talk to the drivers and crew. Ask questions. Almost all will be happy to share some thoughts. Join the SCCA (membership is like $40 a year???). The "sportscar" magazine you get with your membership has around 200 cars nationwide for sale each month. If your new to the sport, better to buy a used car than trying to build your own. If you want to build your own, prepare your cost and time estimate and double it. Get signed up for one of the drivers school listed in Sportscar (the SCCA drivers school you must have your own car. Doesn't have to be class legal, just have the safety gear). Attend 2 drivers schools and then go racing.

My only regret is I didn't do it sooner!

Forgot to add what needs done to the car safety wise. What gets done performance wise depends on the class. American sedan has fairly extensive (read expensive) mods, but most regions have local classes that are more flexible. I run such a class. Minimum safety mods would include 6 point cage, 5 point drivers harness, drivers racing seat, window net, drive shaft loop, battery enclosure, fire bottle or system.

I just started this year and love it!! I run my stock Z-28 in stock F-body class. There are usually other novices running so don't feel intimidated. Run the Solo II events in the parking lots to get a feel for what it is cracked up to be. As far as the cost, it is $20 for a day of racing here. We get about 5-6 runs depending on turnout. Fair warning, I started stock and am now adding springs and other suspension parts, this stuff is addicting. Good luck, and keep me up on the progress, maybe we can help each other out.
