It's fine to manualy shift your trans. As far as redline goes, it all depends on how high we are talking about. Just like any rotating mass it wants to pull itself apart at super high RPM's, but I wouldn't concern myself with that unless I was pushing 7000+ RPM's with a stock 700.

You also need to get your car dyno'ed, and this will tell you the best RPM to shift. The painted red line on the tach, doesn't mean squat !!! The red line shouldn't not be used as a line where peak HP is produced, unless your lucky enough that it works out that way.

If it makes you feel better, I have full manual TH350, so I have to manualy shift every gear all the time. My biggest concern shifting at 6500 RPM's is the U-Joints !!!

Good Luck,

Ron C. Terry

I have manually shifted my 700R-4 tranny for over 7 years ever since I bought my car. I shift it up and down every time i drive the car. I canyon carve and shift up and down continuously. Anyone who says it is bad for the tranny is smoking crack.

When downshifting, just make sure you blip the throttle a little bit before pulling the shifter back. It raises the line pressure and gives a cleaner shift. The tranny doesn't really like it if you just pull back on the stick while idling along at 30mph with your foor off the gas.

Yeah, I do what MrJ says. In fact, it should be done with any tranny, manual or auto.

I have gotten so used to my tranny, I can blip the throttle and bring it down one gear in what seems like a nano second!
