First time at track, need advice please
I'm goin' to the strip in a couple weeks, and I was wondering what, if any, saftey equipment I need. The car is stock, I might run a high 15 if im lucky. Can I run open manifolds(haha), do I need a helmet, etc.
Also, how do u launch an automatic. All I've driven in the past were sticks. Thanx guys.

14X3 o.e., functional formula hood(for sale in future), uhhh..., umm...
Am I the only person who believes a car has feelings, emotions, and a soul??

Since your car is stock and you won't be in the 13's or faster you won't need much safety equipment. You aren't required to wear a helmet unless you run 13.99 or faster. Most tracks require that you wear long pants, so keep that in mind. Also be sure your seatbelts are in good working order, check for water or oil leaks, and your tires are in decent shape. You aren't allowed to have more than 1ft. of rubber fuel line either, but since your car is stock that shouldn't be a problem either. Thats usually about all the tech guys look at.
How you launch your auto depends on the particular car and how well it hooks up. I would try holding the brake and reving to about 1500-2000RPMs to launch. Depending on traction you may not be able to do this without spinning, experiment with different launch techniques and figure out what works best for your car. Good luck!
oh yea and don't run open manifolds, you need atleast some pipe on there and with a stock engine you would probably run a little better with some back pressure.

I agree with jbenge on everything but on how to launch your auto. I have a 700R4 auto tranny. If you hold the brake and rev your motor, you are going to blow your tires off, stock or not. Your 60ft time is the key to your 1/4 time. Remember that every tenth you take off your 60ft. is 2 tenths in the 1/4 mile. B/c of my mods and no tread on my tires, my 60ft. is terrible. Just put it in first, and when the tree goes, let off the brake and punch it. Being stock, you should hook pretty good that way. And I would shift manually, just watch you rpms. Good luck.
