Premium gas

What is the advantage of running premium gas at the track in a low moded car. Will it actually effect 1/4 miles times?

If your car is computer controlled, the use of high octane fuel will help its performance. The reason is that the computer will allow for more spark advance and add more fuel to compensate for the advance rate. Therefore, you'd technically be making more cylinder pressure and theoretically more power.

Good luck.

As long as your computer isn't pulling back timing there is no advantage. With every day pump gasoline the higher the octane the less volitile the fuel. By using an octane level higher then what your motor needs you are making it more difficult to combust the air/fuel mixture and delaying the combustion process which will likely slow you down. Although, sometimes it's advantageous to delay the burn so that the pressure builds during the time when your crank is in a position to produce the best mechanical advantage. But with the state of tune and performance of average street engines you'll never notice the difference. Basically, use what you need and stop there.
