Now start tuning from there. It should have more in it IMO.

Re: Running lean?

Feels great! haha. I'll post up the timeslip later tonight! It's still in the car. But i was experimenting with the 2-3 shift and it actually really liked high rpms. I was shifting at 6700 and that's when i ran the 12.67. Adjusted the timing some and ran a 12.67 again which was the 106.16 run.

I was also only getting 1.80 60 foots, my tires are gone i have to get some new ones. Hopefully with 2 tenths in the 60 i could see 4 tenths at the end of the track and be low 12's!

Re: Running lean?

I agree, thats where it should be... time to find the shift points, get launch down and dial in fueling to make sure its not still lean or overly rich and hurting power. I dont recall what stall speed you have but its gonna want a good bit of converter to get off the line best.

Re: Running lean?

I have a 3500 stall. And yes, i started brake torquing it to around 2500 and it was really pulling. Anything beyond around 2700 and the tires begin to spin. I still am running the stock lcas, would some new ones and lcarbs net me some faster 60 foots?

Re: Running lean?

lcarbs may help...hard to say. they did nothing on my TA but its not build to be a super serious drag launcher But the geometry was way off and it still went mid 1.6's on 17" radials. Did lcarbs and lca's and didnt see any real gain. Maybe its the tire, as it will try to plant it harder. If not enough tire it wont handle it without some fine shock /spring work

Re: Running lean?

Just another quick question...

My mickey thompson ets are gone now, and i have to get some new ones. Right now i was just running ones that we had, which were 275/60R15 what i was wondering is which tire would work best with my 3.73 rear gear? I was thinking the 275/50/15? I was thinking the 26 inch tire would allow me to get more top end speed?

Re: Running lean?

I'd run the 26".... your not mph-ing fast enough to need a 28" tire yet. In 3rd gear at the stripe at 106mph your way low in the hp curve and a smaller tire will bump you up in rpm and should help top end of the track as well as the beginning since the gearing advantage increases with smaller tire.

Re: Running lean?

definitely the 275/50 tire with that gearing and MPH/rpm requirements

Re: Running lean?

just hope the track is prepped. going to a smaller tire can "fix" a gearing problem, but also decreases the amount of longitudinal tire footprint, which is what really helps traction (more-so than width typically).

if it were my car, i'd go to a 4.10 and stick with a 275/60/15. but since the car is working well otherwise, and you need tires and not a set of gears, try them out. if they suck, sell them to a lesser powered car and do what i mentioned above.

those tires work really well though, so you shouldn't have a problem. just giving some theory

Re: Running lean?

Xpndbl3 & orr: Yeah that's exactly what i was going for, i was hoping the smaller tire would match my gearing better and allow me to get that top end that isnt quite there yet!

mw66nova: You said exactly what i was going to be worried about, haha. I hook fairly well with the 275/60's so i figured they are a great tire, just i lose some topend with them. But i was actually at one point thinking about switching to a 4.10 gear, so if these tires dont work out and i cant stick, ill do what you said and switch to a 4.10 and back to the old tire size.

Thanks guys, ill let you know what it runs next time at the track! Maybe i can break off a low 12 second pass.

Re: Running lean?

at low 12s you shouldn't have a problem hooking with that tire. We've been 9.17 on a 26" drag radial on a stock 17" f-body rim and others have been much much faster.

Re: Running lean?

Alright good! How many mph at the end of the track should i pick up from this? 1-2? Also, i just got in an electric water pump today. I want to run consistent and sbc's run better cold, so i figured this will allow me to cool my car down alot easier. I heard that it also "frees" up hp because of less drag on the crank? Who knows, i might pick a 1/10 up there as well!
