15s or 16s for a track-ONLY set of drag tires?

the title's a pretty good summary of the question. I have 2 15x7 bird rims (the look-alikes of the 16x8 formula rims). I have an offer to trade my 2 15s for a 16x8 Formula pair.

whatever rims me and Popapork and Kzad wind up with, we're going to put some drag tires on them for track use only, next season. Are there as many good 16x8 tires for drag-only to choose from as there are 15x7?

I'm guessing the answer is yes, but I'm just tryin to confirm this before I make the trade thanks in advance

i like my hoosier quick time pro 26x9.5x16's a lot, or you could get a nice drag radial on there adn drive it to the track. the 16's are the way to go.

of course there are Jimmy!!! : )
Nitto Extreme Drads...245/50/r16's...perfect fit for that rim...also it's a stock tire height so u won't have to compensate and gear for hook...also a pretty damn good street tire

let me think....15x7 or 16x8.....what really matters is tread width....so 7" or 8"
Go with the 16x8s, and since it's going to be a track ONLY tire, get some nice solid slicks, forget the radial unless you plan on driving to the track with them on the car

a 15 inch wheel would allow for more sidewall. An arguement could be made for the effect sidewall wrinkling has on traction. I have the 16x8s though so I dont know what the hell Im talking about.

An arguement could also be made that sidewall wrinkle could hurt them, not help the 1/4 time. Wrinkle is a cushion like a tcc if you leave off the line with a high stall and MEGA power. I don't think these guys are going sub 12's yet so....
All in all I would keep the 16x8's just because you can fit 255/50's no problem and that's really wide for a 15x7

For your best times, run the narrowest slick you can without losing traction. Anything wider is just adding extra drag and rotational mass which you don't need.

i would personally go with the 15" they are really the best for a raceing rim, look at all the race cars at the track, 99% of them have a 15" rims, not to mention there alot more tire choices and cheaper with a 15"
