AutoX'ing this weekend
I'm going to be doing some Solo II (I think?) racing this weekend with my university's sports car club.
I was told I'm in E/SP because I did a cam swap. Is that correct? I couldn't find any points assigned for cams in the rulebook.
I was wondering if the autox'ers had any advice on what mods to do... I'm already in E/SP, so I figure I should go to the max with allowable mods. I figure what I want to do is get:
1) Poly bushings... no points right?
2) Panhard bar... no points either right?
3) Lowering springs... 1 point
4) LCA relocation brackets and new LCA's... any idea?
Plus good tires...
Yes, I know seat time is the best thing to get
. But I like modding my car.

You can go quite far in ESP. All but one competitor in ESP in my club trailers their ESP cars. To better understand the details of what you can/can't do, get yourself an SCCA rulebook.
I run my 3rd gen in FS. Only mods that I have are Koni Sport Adjustables and Dynomax cat-back. In addition, I have set the front end to maximum negative camber (6 bolts and about 5 minutes work). Make this mod. I used to set the camber at the start of the events and reset it at the end. I now leave it set since I haven't seen bad tire wear patterns driving it on the roads this way.
I just finished my first season in my 3rd gen (88 IROC 5.7TPI) and the car is competitive. The driver needs more experience, but has three trophies to show for the season.
Seat time is the most cost-effective mod you can get if you are starting out. Also, try to get a ride as a passenger with an FS or ESP driver. Better yet, get him to drive your car when this happens. You can pick up alot from these rides. I got a few rides from one of the faster drivers in FS (in a Mustang) early in the season. I started beating him towards the end of the season. At the last event (I beat him), he came by and said "No more damn rides for you!".
What a blast.
