Mojave Mile attempt

So, I'm pretty sure I'm going to have a go at the Mojave standing mile. I'd like to get your input on exactly how I should prepare, or if I should even do it at all. My car is essentially new, I've built my 91' RS to be "B4C spec", basically a G92 L98 car with 1LE brakes. Everything, aside from the transmission and motor (which are being replaced this month) is new. Moog 5662 & CC635 springs, Moog Bushings, 1LE LCA bushings, Moog panhard bar, Bilstein HD shocks and struts, rebuilt 7.625 with a Trutrac and Richmond 3.23s (and TA girdle), and 1LE brakes. The motor output is unknown as of now but estimates put it at 360 crank.

What should I expect? Is it a good idea to try the standing mile? I just want to see what I top out at.

360hp in a 3600lb car is going to run high 12's to low 13's at 107 to 109mph. That equates to a 140 to 145mph full mile speed.

Re: Mojave Mile attempt

I can only answer one of your questions, And that is yes you should try the standing mile, More than likely you will enjoy it and not regret doing it, If you decide not to you may regret that decision.

Re: Mojave Mile attempt

I did the Mohave mile last year with my C5Z.
Did about 160mph was geared with a 4.10 and 6th would not pull it.
The morning air is good for 3 to 5 mph more so get your fast runs in first thing in the morning.
At lunch I had folded my mirrors back and taped up the front grills and the air was so bad the car ran slower.
Gotta get it early before 10am when its still good "mine shaft air".
But in the morning track is really dusty too for the first several passes...
A buddy's blower car....

Re: Mojave Mile attempt

Damn. I'm pretty sure my warmed over L98 won't hit 200... but it'll be fun to see what a "stock" car can do.

Re: Mojave Mile attempt

Do it just be careful when you get out of the throttle. Did a very illegal standing mile in fathers 79 vette years ago. It almost went bad quick. It's about a 450 horse car with stock suspension. I was young and dumb. Wanted to see how fast it really was. Buried the needle so that was 160 mph( I think) and it was still pulling. I knew I was running out of road so I lifted off throttle completely and the back end got loose. Scary loose. Was all over the road till it got back below 100 mph, and on a old two lane country road there won't to much room for error.

Point of the story. Know how your car reacts at higher speeds cause at those speeds everything happens 1000 times faster. But absolutely do it just be smart and safe.

Re: Mojave Mile attempt

Words to live (and not die) by! Any sudden change at speed can totally unbalance a car. I learned the hard way too but that was on a track with tons of space to slide across.

Re: Mojave Mile attempt

Just to be safe, I'd check your alignment before you go out.. Mine's off a little and at the top of the 1/4 mile it's a handful.. and that's only around 100.
