Tire question
Looking for new tires for my 85. I have vette C5 wheels 17x8.5 front and 18x9.5 rear. This car will be a weekend warrior and maybe 2 times a year it will be autocrossed. I know for autocross you should run a 200 tread wear tire. I'm just getting into this sport and don't really want to break the bank on tires that will not last very long driving on the street. Maybe down the road I will have dedicated track tires but for now would something in the 300-400 tread wear range work ok? The car is just pretty much stock with a 305 and auto tranny. It does have a posi and rear disc brakes and will have LS1 front brakes.

Re: Tire question
Personally, I would suggest a set of track only tires. Track tires are not designed for street use and street tires are not very good at the track. Autocross is no different than oval or drag racing. Each needs to have a set of dedicated tires for best performance.
Your 300-400 tread wear tires will probably work but if you're spinning or sliding and lose a race, you'll understand why better equipment should be used.

Re: Tire question
If the car doesn't see any sub-freezing temperatures than I would suggest a summer only set of tires. Usually you can buy those kind of tires in a lower treadware rating. If it doesn't get driven in the summer it probably isn't your daily driver so they end up lasting a few years to where the rubber is hardening.

Re: Tire question
It is a summer only car. The heater and a/c box have been removed by one of the previous owners.
