I had a question. I recently purchased this 82 Firebird called the " The Macho Poncho" Its a NHRA super stock car that did a lot of racing in the 80s and early 90s. I bought the car with no title like most race cars, but I would like to try and register and make it "street legal". What would be the easiest way to get a title for the car and register it, if even possible? or is it going to have to live 1/4 mile at a time for the rest of its life? Thanks in advance.
Is there still an original VIN plate on the cowl? Even running in SuperStock, there should still be a VIN plate so they can determine make/model/year etc for the class. Depending how gutted out the car is, there may be an original VIN decal attached someplace on the inside of the car. I've seen them almost anywhere including on the insides of the rear fenders.
If not then your local jurisdiction can create a new VIN for the vehicle. The VIN will not be a GM decoded type of VIN but a state/province specific VIN. It will get a new VIN plate that needs to be attached to the body somewhere it can be seen.
That would be enough to get a title. Getting it to pass an inspection to be street legal is another story.
Even my car still has the original VIN plate but it hasn't been registered since 1998. I still have the original registration but my car will never be street legal again.
