Stock and in new/great condition they ran from 14.2-14.4 usually. U have to figure it on condition and other factors what it might do at the track.

I would say more like high 14's, the newer speed density cars ran in the lower 14's.

Take it to the track and let us know.

91-RED-WS6 -- What altitude did you run at? What was your 60 foot time?

I know my chip is way out of whack at the moment, but I'm trying to get an idea of what my L98 is supposed to be at.

Your car stock should be a 14.2-14.4 sec. car in right conditions.

I *think* I'm @ about 800 ft. best 60 ft time was in the 2.12. I think the 107,000 miles on the car have taken it's toll on the tranny...1-2 shift is pretty tight, but the others are a little soft. Traction is also sometimes a problem. I'm still getting used to the car on the track too... Temps were in the low 50's/high 40's, so I can't see how I'd get a 14.2 unless it was REALLY cold.

Hrm..

My car has 104,000 on it, I can understand the soft tranny. My temps are around the same, and I corrected for altitude, but I'm around a half second slower than you.

Last weekend I found out the previous owner didn't believe in exhaust manifold gaskets, so who knows what else in wrong with that car. Your engine's probably tighter than mine, but at least we're comparable.

14.85 @ 93.14 MPH - 2.26 60-Foot on street tires
Was that 60 ft with the suspension mods you have listed? If so, seems that either I had a sticky track (it was pretty good) or you have a cruddy one... could be the tranny too. I think with the suspension mods you should be in the 1.9x 60 foot time. I think I read somewhere that every .1 in 60 foot equals .2 in ET. Our MPH figures are REAL close, so we should presently be making about the same HP.

Yeah, that was with the suspension mods. I really suck a throttling it off the line, so I spin for a little bit.

Come April 5th I'm going to the track again. Then I can see how much gain gutting cats gives me, try to learn how to go easier off the line to minimize spin, and try out my new eproms I burnt.

Hmm. I'd have thought the suspension mods would have helped. Must have been a cruddy track or tires or transmission....

What gears are you running?

B/W 3.27's. I have 225/55/16 Goodyear GT II's on the rear.

I've found that on the street, if I don't "torque up" first, the car seems to "spring" off the line and take off really nice. But if I torque up first, I'll light up the tires pretty good usually. The only time I didn't light the tires at a light while torquing up was after doing a smokey burnout in an apartment parking lot right before.

So I'm thinking I should try taking off the line at idle a couple times and see how I do. They say that on street tires doing a burnout doesn't help because of the composition of the rubber, but if it helped that one time I might try it again.

I've actually heard that some tires will get "greasy" when you burnout first. I usually do a light one to shed any water I may have picked up - I TRY to go around the water, but it's usually all over the place. Then I brake stand just a little to bring up the RPM's before launch.

Some heavier cars, like the Impala SS, you get better 60 ft times if you 'roll onto' the gas gradually. It's hard to keep from mashing it, but it may help.

Practice, practice, practice - (I'm CERTAINLY no pro, but I hope to get even better)

Car: Damn
Engine: This
Transmission: New Stuff
I've got Lakewood LCA's with 3.73 gears and a Yank 3200, and traction is hard to come by. I've had a best 60 ft. of 1.98 on ET Drags, and a best of 2.09 on Futura radials. Go figure.
My 1/4 ET was the same on each run too!?
On the slicks, it felt like they hooked real good, and I pulled out of the hole faster, but I think the tranny was slippin pretty bad cause of the greater stress of the added traction.
I'm about to do the entire suspension for the strip and put a new stout tranny in, hopefully this will help.
