if it has the LT1 engine its rated at 300hp and is good for mid 13s. however, there was a special engine made just for the 96' model year, dubbed LT4. it was only availible in manual trans equipped cars and was underrated at 330hp. this motor was good for high 12s with the right driver. i got this info from a shootout that vette magazine did in 97' between a 96 LT1 and a 96 LT4. both cars were manuals. the best time for the LT1 was 13.6, and the LT4 got a 12.9. hope this helps
Car and driver has tested a 2000 Z28 no SS option with a dynometer. It tested 287 Rear wheel hp and since the z28 was rated at 305 at the crank yes it was underrated as well. Since it hit the 287 at the rear at the crank it should of hit a good 330.

I don't know about the LT1's being underated but the LS1's are. My TA put out 307.3hp@5400 with only the couple mods listed in the sig plus the ramair doesn't help on a dyno. And it's a A4

i was talking about the LT4 engine being underrated. how could a motor with just a 30hp increase over a standard LT1 run 7 tenths faster in the quarter? there has to be more than the advertised 330 hp in that engine, its probably more like 350
