My first time - What about these times?

I took my car to a 1/8 mile track here near Houston and ran three times. This car is completely stock except for a jet airfoil and an open K & N filter element. I think they are OK, but Ive got some room for improvement.

1st reaction - .5906 60'- 2.191 1/8 et - 9.55 73.70mph
2nd reaction - .693 60' - 2.87 1/8 et - 9.407 74.50mph
3rd reaction - ..3874 60' - 2.196 1/8 et - 9.454 74.12mph

I don't know how these relate to 1/4mile times. I am going to do some modes and take it out again in a few weeks. There is 1/4mile track here but its about 1 1/2 hrs away compared to 20 minutes for the 1/8 mile track.

Im planing tg Hooker headers with Hooker catback system. I would really like to get a set of slicks to put on at the track to.

the reaction times are strange, I felt the best on the second run and that was the worst one. The first two runs I was racing a pretty fast chevy impala with straight pipes and I don't know what all. It ran around 80 mpph about 8.5 sec. the second run I beat him off the line and was really close the first 60'. I guess the reaction time takes practice. These were my first runs in my entire life.

What year car you got Fireturd or Camaro :hail: , 350 or 305, or A4 or M5? I'm guessing a 305 with those times, Also I think you forgot a 1 in you best run I think the 60' should be 2.187. Not bad for the mods you have done. Here are the times from my best run to date, 60' 2.001, 330' 5.980, 1/8 9.288 @ 74.1mph. That run end up as a 1/4 14.603@93mph.
By the way take some time and drive the 1/4 track you wont be sorry.

you are correct sir!

You are right about the 1, it should read 2.187. Sorry I completely forgot to mention my car. It is a firebird formula with a 5.7L, '1991 with WS6. I guess these times arent' to impressive if your thinking 5.0. What I noticed compared to other times is the 60' times seem pretty good but the overall et just average. I saw a car on here with a 60' time of 2.24 (slower than mine) and it had tons of mods, but the 1/8 mile time was 9.2 something, a lot better than mine. I guess I need to work on the top end. I would assum this difference would be even more pronounced in the 1/4 mile. What do you guys think I should do first to improve the top end? Its' not going to be gears or slicks then.

I forgot

I forgot to mention its a automatic, 700r, stock tranny. This could be part of the problem, right before the finish it shifts into third and really bogs down, Again I think this would be worse in the 1/4 mile because at the finish in th 1/8 ive still got half the track left. Maybe it would be better in the 1/4 because Ive got room for the rpms to get back up again. Why do you say the 1/4 is so much better?

You get to go much faster in the 1/4, maybe not better just more fun. 74 mph that hwy speeds. 0 to 90+ is fun as hell. Your times futher down the track may get better than mine. I could be wrong, but I've been fliping through my time slips and it looks like you need to be in 80mph range in the 1/8 to pull 13's in the 1/4. My car has some good traction so that helps alot. At lest you have a base line set of numbers, time to do some mods and see the improvments. Good luck.

Everything happens in the first 1/8 mile. That's usually where a race is won or lost. The last 1/8 mile you should be in high gear and it's brute force HP getting you to the end of the track.
