The crew site is backonline. New IP for the first time in quite a while but its back online.

It will be a bit before all the bugs in the DNS are all worked out and cacadecrew.org/www.cascadecrew.org actually work or resolve to the correct server directory. But we have the important part back.

WHOOOO hoooo.
i have been wandering around cyberspace without a destination for way too long!!!
BTW, Jess, a few of us were talking the other night, and were thinking that maybe CC.org has outgrown your little server, and were thinking it might be time to move it to a more perminent home. i know of at least 3 or 4 of us that would be willing to chip in every month to pay to have the site hosted. that might make it a little easier on you too.
just something to think about

John,
Shawn (Wolfman) offered up a 400 MHz board/chip for the new crew server and I have a spare HD and 544 MB of spare ram. So next month we'll be getting an upgraded server that will be dedicated for the crew. We'll see how that goes before looking to pay for hosting.

well, IMHO, it isn't a server issue, i think that most of the outages, are ISP related, nothing you can do about that. personaly for a homebuilt and run server, what you ahve is taking things like a tropper, but as with any home ISP service, the uptime is leaving a little to be desired.
if you were at a co-lo with reduntant backbone lines, network downtime basicly not an issue.

Something to think about anyway Jess. You could still administer the site, we would just need a few people to make a small financial commitment to keep it going. Or a lot of people to make a tiny contribution - hehe.
If we decide to go this way I would be happy to contribute. And to echo John's thoughts, I think you have done an outstanding job from a hardware and administrative standpoint. Verizon sucks!
lol (which reminds me, stop blocking peoples IP addresses
)

Count me in for some $ if ya decide to go that route Jess. Like Mike said, it won't amount to much split up a few ways, and I value the crew site and it's availability.
Thanks for all your hard work Jess! :hail:

Thanks for the kind words guys.
I think we should be able to find hosting for 10-20 a month to fit all we will need. Which, isn't bad if we can get 10 member's to donate $1-2 a month Add to that the little bit from the CC sticker's. I'll keep an eye out for cheap hosting plans, the only problem might be getting our current database uploaded and connected and what not, and I think with some of the good deal's they want like 2 years up front.....

try $20 a year.
www.2mhost.com
with this being another down time.
I think its time to invest into this soon... and its not something that will break anyones pocketbook.
I highly doubt 50mb storage space and whatever bandwidth it offers for a chat forum is going to use more than a few gb a month... just a hunch...
any idea what kind of bandwidth CC uses per month currently?
They're a very fast host, very reliable, and I'm soon going to get an account with them for picture hosting, which will be posted around various boards, and I don't see myself even using more than a few gb per month transferring...
just a thought.
but I'd think that for a year, you won't be able to beat that anywhere else...

it seems that the standard linux plan would work for us.
jess would need to check on actualy HD space we are using, but it does have PHP, and MySQL included in the standard pakage. looks that the allow unlimited bandwidth (i don't know how that can be, maybe jess needs to call them
) so it would be under $20/year to host through them.

the person I know who showed me the 2mhost place has never gone over his limit and he uses his as an upload place for a pretty large site...
