12-bolts are made by Strange Engineering, KTRE, Moser, and I think Currie Enterprises is making one now. There's another "M" name that's on the tip of my tonge that I can't think of right now. The Strange unit is spendy but it's nice and having installed two I know they are a direct fit. KTRE has had complaints of unfulfilled deliveries after payment. I don't know anything about Moser or Currie.
If you're looking at a Ford 9" it's important to keep in mind the differences between the 9" and the 12-bolt. The Ford 9" versions have a larger pad then normal to mount the torque arm . The stock torque arm, or any aftermarket variant of the stock style, will not fit. You will need a custom made torque arm just for the 9". Steve Spohn makes one that I know of. The 9" also has larger axle tubes then normal and the sway bar brackets won't fit. Not a big deal... just get new brackets. The 9" also reduces ground clearance because the center section is so large. None of these things are issues with the Strange 12-bolt. The last thing to note is that while the 9" is very durable it is a highly inefficient rearend. It will drag your fuel economy down. Both rearends will come with larger yokes so you will have to upgrade the u-joints on your driveline. The Strange comes with the new u-joint in a little box.
e-mail me and I'll give you some info that might help you get a better then average deal on a new Strange 12-bolt. I've got a connection that might work for you.

As far as trannys go the TH350 is a solution if and only if you can't afford something better or you don't care about overdrive. Frankly, with a TH350 you might run out of gear before the end of the 1/4 mile. There are other options available in overdrive trannys from GM trucks that are plenty durable.

There is a company, can't think of the name right now, that makes a 600+ lbs.-ft. proof 700R-4. Bullet proof + overdrive = Kickass!
One advantage of the 9" is the easy removal of the third member making gear ratio changes fairly simple. I'd still go with the new 12bolt.

The engineering design of the 700R4 has limits at 400 ft-lb of torque. The gears sets are strong but the 3-4 clutch drum is a weak link. There's simply not enough physical space to upgrade the clutch for a "bullet proof" tranny. Anybody who tells you different is full of crap. The 700R4 offered through Jet, TCI, B&M, etc. are buyer beware products that will not have longevity behind a strong engine. However, the 700R4 can be made to hold pretty fair by using a manual valve body which eliminates a lot of calibration issues. But it’s still just a matter of time before the 3-4 clutch smokes. If you like to run through the gears on a regular basis it will give out.
Cragier, I e-mailed you info on the other tranny possibilities.

This is the same set. They were sent to my friend steve's house, today is the first day i look at them...Awesome!
Upon inspection, we realized that they did not have a heat riser, the center bolt holes for the tpi that are at a 72deg angle were not a 72deg angle, and they are not the centerbolt valve cover style
I'm getting frustrated! AFR said it my cost an additional 300 bucks for the proper heads, if that is the case, i'm gonna get the trickflow 23deg heads cuz i'm in over my head as it is! I paid 1300 for my heads and they said it was in the area of 1600-1800 for the right heads
I can get a set of trickflows for under a grand, granted they do not flow half as well as the AFR's
We'll see here in the next few days!

Craig, if the Trickflows don't flow half as well as the AFRs, it hardly seems worth it. Kinda puts you in a bad situation.
