Abe's Auto Recyling

Hey everyone we finally got a trial board up so let's help keep it up for good Just wondering if anyone has been to Abe's recently. I tried going a while back when there was all the rain but was too slippery to go down. Just wanted to know if anyone seen some third gen Camaros down there recently. Laterz

last time I went (about 2 months ago) they had 6 f-bodies, I think 4 Camaros and 2 birds. But they were all L03 or V6 cars ... what ya lookn for? I'm picking up an 88 chassis (V6 - T-Tops) for $200 from a friend.

I was there two weeks ago, they had (undisclosed number) of F-bodies, various types. Same story, they were rained out due to the rain run-off up in Mililani and Wahiawa. Didn't have time to wait, so I promised to go back later.

I've got an LO3 so that's perfect. Like an idiot, I twisted one of my fuel lines coming out of the throttle body while taking it off.

I need to find tail lenses asap, so I'll definately head over there if it isn't raining this weekend. (Assuming I can find it....)

Since the 'yards here aren't too impressive, I'm sure I can go through each third gen (probably each f-body of any year) they have within an hour. I'll let you guys know if they have anything useful. I'll probably bring my little digital camera and snap some crappy shots.

Does anyone know if they are reasonable on pricing?

I'll let you know if I find any T/A hoods or spoilers, Ian. I doubt they'd have any, though. If they did they'd probably want a decent amount for 'em.

Ace, what are ya' lookin' for? I'll definately let you know if they have any camaros in decent shape (with anything left).

I better print out a VIN code list for the engines... all I can tell is v6/8 carb or v6/8 tpi. Don't know the engine codes through the vin....

Scott

Just looking for an LO3 camaro. I want the fuel lines from the engine compartment & possibly the throttle body if it's there also. Thanks.

Forgot this was easter weekend. No wonder all the yards were closed.

Someone I called at Abe's said they only had '84 and older 'birds, didn't ask about any 'maros.

That dumbass on the phone said, "No, we only have the later firebirds" when I asked about 85-92's. I said, "You've only got 4th gens?" and he said, "Uhh, no the LATER ones. The '84 and 'before' firebirds."

Well, I won't be heading there anytime soon. I guess I'll have to look through ebay for my lense, and wait a month to get it.

Scott

I need a new hood, mine is starting to bubble. the last time I went down toa junkyard, they had just crushed a cherry 92 z28 because the owner didnt have room for it and wanted to crush it. As i drove in I saw the bits and pieces of it and almost broke down in tears(not really but yeah it was sad), the only slavageable piece in visual sight in the pile was the highrise spoiler, but unfortunately, there was only half of it; the other half had been obliterated.

I might head over there again sometime soon. My friend needs me to show him where it is and needs my truck if they got the fender and bumber that he needs for his Lesabre.

By the way, I'm too lazy to research, but what is the lesabre body called? It's an '84 4-door. I think it's the same as a Regency and Caprice, probably the Bonne also? I want to say C-bodies... but I don't know.

While he's checking through the sedans I'll pick through any f-bodies thoroughly for good parts. Don't know if they'll be cheap, though.

I thnk they were B-bodies, but I could be mistaken. My wife went out there to pick up a few tings, like a spare tire for her car that didn't fit, eight plastic wingnuts for the tail lights for the Firebird (idiots had removed ALL of them - two little muts holding on all that stuff - yikes) and found out a passenger headlight actuator cost 79 dollars. A new one is 109. She's running over ot Checkers in Mililani (much better than the one in Waipahu, by the way) to pick up a new one. Apparently, you pay up front at Abe's, they pull the part, test it, and give you the part, even if it doesn't work. I'm not having any of that.

Let me know if checker auto has it. Get me the part number also if you can. I'll call and see if my commercial account gets a discount. At the very least, they won't charge tax. Or it might be like 0.5% tax.

The website has it, but the Checkers siad it's a dealer-only part. I can buy rebuilt ones off of Ebay for only eighty bucks, and that includes a 20-dollar core charge I get back! Shipping is nine bucks or so. I'll do the Ebay thing, it's one of those 'Buy It Now!' deals, they claim to have 70+ in stock. Looks good, and it's for the year I want, not some mystery part out of a junker at Abe's, or some wierd part number you can't get out here in Hawaii.

The year shouldn't matter, I think. Maybe for the 91 switchover. My cousin probably won't need one or both of his. He just found a GREAT '90 formula for $350 with LEATHER. If those lights work, he won't need the ones off of his crashed '87. So I'll find out from him by tomorrow if you're still interested. He'd probably only want a few bucks plus shipping.

Hey Anthony, I recently pulled the L03 out of my 89 RS track car to swap a Carb'd 350 in (L98 based). Anyway, I have the L03 fuel lines you need and you can have them for free. The lines I have go from the rubber hose connector right by the steering box to the TBI intake, and they are not compatibe with TPI intakes. I do not plan to ever run a TBI motor in any of my projects so I have no need for those fuel lines (or TBI intake or L03 heads). I'm gonna be converting that L03 to a LB9 using the leftover TPI parts from the L98 I'm swapping in. The parts are in Kaimuki, and I'm free Fridays and Saturdays, so lemme know which day is good for you and we can meet up.

Hey Shawn!!! That's awesome man. I'll buy you lunch for the lines. Maybe on Saturday we could meet up if that's cool. I work from 6pm-2am so it would have to be around lunchtime or earlier. So just let me know ok. Oh, one more thing, since you are carbing your 89, I'm gonna ask you a bunch of questions later on how you set everything up ok. I'm gonna carb my 89 also & there are some things that I'm not too sure of to get everything working. I'll get more into detail about it later & maybe even check out your car when you're done for ideas. Thanks man.

Hey man, how bad are the bubbles on your hood. If you don't mind a bodyworking project I've got an IROC hood that I'm gonna sell for $50. It's got rust so it needs work. I haven't looked at it recently so I gotta check out how bad the rust is on it. Let me know if you're interested.

oh yeah, my friend's 89 RS just got rear ended a month ago, he said he'd sell me the whole car, i dont know why, but he rebuilt the L03 in it, engine only has like 1200 miles on it. Only prob with it though, is that his rear is soo mashed that the tires rub against the wheel wheels so its immobile. how much you guys think its' worth?

Hmmmmmm...how bout you buy the car & we all help you strip it for parts! lol nahnah joking. I'll go & check on the condition of the hood tomorrow ok. It's been sitting in the rain for awhile so I don't know how bad the rust is. I'll let you know.

Depends how much of the front is salvageable and how much of that is in good condition.

You can rent a u-haul auto trailer for under $20 to tow it to your place if you want to part it out. If there isn't anything good left on it, just pass it up.

Then again, if you have free time it could be a good side project just to help you learn more about your own car by parting out that one. Back in highschool is when I began learning about cars since I didn't work much.

Just take a look at it and offer him some change. If you actually want the engine or trans, then it'd be worth more to you, but otherwise just give him like $50 or something. Maybe 100-$200 max if there are a lot of parts that are still in good shape.

Let me know if he has a good headliner board!

Scott
