We're gonna change out the tranny fluid and filter, put in some of that stop slip fluid additive, re-adjust the TV cable and see if it gets any better. *crosses fingers*

Just another of those unknowns when dealing with a car sitting unused for a year-plus, sigh. Maybe it was abused when the owner first restarted it and the fluid level was down. Dunno...
Shawn said he got it running good in other respects, so after a trans a dependable driver it will be. However, he's run out of investment money on the car and needs a trans or a buyer.
How about it, anyone have another 700R4 and/or want to take it over?

Hey Shawn. If you don't need a trans right away then you can have mine in about a month for free when I take out the engine & trans from the RS. I have one "built" on the side for the new motor & have no use for the stock one afterwards. Word of caution though....it has over 120,000 miles on it. It drives fine with no slipping but just started shifting kinda funky recently (back & forth between overdrive & drive) before I put the car in storage.
So if this seems like a good route for you to take & you are not pushed for time let me know. Laterz.

How'd the old stuff look coming out of the pan?
Lot's of clutch material?...
If there's any chance of it working, you could use an extra dose of Lucas Trans Fix or... I can't remember the other good one my teacher told me about... but instead of using Dexron fluid, use Type F.
Mechanic-in-a-can is always worth a second try.... You don't even need to buy a new filter or gasket, just use rtv and check and clean out the screen. You can also see if any more junk wound up in the new filter.
If you can't get a replacement I have an '87 700r of unknown condition (maybe Rob knows) sitting in my garage.

We replaced the filter and gasket, re-sealed the dipstick tube (its not the stock dipstick tube), put in 5 quarts of the expensive redline D4 tranny fluid, the lucas stop slip, and readjusted the TV cable. I heard the redline fluid did wonders for slipping transmissions, but it didnt work out for me. Killed me at $10 a qt too. Lucas stuff didnt save the day either. The bands are probably almost gone. There wasnt much rubbish on the magnet, so not sure what to think. Trans wont shift under 3,500 rpm or so, even on slight throttle. SES codes reporting some bad sensors but nothing about a whacked out lockup. I'll have to think some more about what to do with the car, I have so many jobs to do with my other cars, I dont know if another trans swap added to the list will be do-able. I gotta finish suspension on the IROC by this weekend, then I got less than 1 week to fix the B4C's rear suspension (just bushings though so should be alright), then I gotta start on the trans swap in my Z28 by first week of June (with Chris's help). So much to do!!
I've heard bad bad things about Redline trans fluid. Nothing really concrete- just enough to make me never want to try it.
Did the TV auto-latch? Is there a difference in the shifting between the TV set and disconnecting the TV? Of course, even if it is at full TV pressure that wouldn't help explain the massive slipping....
Lockup shouldn't affect any of that. You could force it to lock the TCC once you're rolling, but that'd be the worst transmission to drive ever.
Looks like you've got enough projects on your hands as it is. What were your plans for the car?

Not sure about the TV, we didnt disconnect it and try it. We just made sure it was set properly and gave it a go. The TCC was more of a guess, looking for any reasons at this point. Looks like this car might become parts unless someone buys it and swaps the trans. Thanks for the offers Anthony and Scott, but I straight up dont have the time or space to do a trans swap at this point. Seems better to part it out. I know Anthony needs a dash board (this one is mint), my friend needs body panels and suspension (this RS has drop springs and tokiko HP's all around), and I need a grey interior (for the B4C resto). The rest of the body panels would be good backups for my drift car, and I could use some extra suspension components to minimize downtime when doing bushings. Car is still in the same condition as it was when Ed sold it to me so nothing is set in stone yet. But seems like parting it out would make the most sense.
Its official, Tone is the new owner of that 92 RS. We couldnt stand the idea of stripping the car since its still saveable. Tone decided he would have time/space for it next to his SVO. So now we have one more guy that can come on our cruises!
Current plans for Tone's RS are a TH350 swap to remedy the transmission situation and eventually a carb'd 350ci SBC to put a smile on his face. He's gonna be using the stuff I bought for my carb'd motor project that never happened (Holley 750 VS, Air-Gap intake).
Which reminds me, anyone want a '89 RS shell? Its completely stripped and gutted, perfect for anyone looking to build a race car. And its FREE!! hahahah just needs to be towed (no rearend)
If nobody can get it by June 17 its gonna turn into soda cans and frying pans...
