When mine broke I just went with the stock replacement, it was under $3. But that car was mostly stock so it was ok to use a stock replacement. If you're making alot of power and you have good traction (like 1/4 mile with slicks) then it might be worthwhile to go with an aftermarket bushing. It would depend on how much force you're generating with the torque arm. So if you're gonna go aftermarket for the trans mount you might as well replace the torque arm bushing with an aftermarket one too.

On the '92 I used poly trans and engine mounts, mostly because the rubber isn't as durable. This is especially useful for the trans mounts, which I seem to tear up frequently.

Thanks for the input. I went with the stock one, as it was only 5.
Of course it seemed to be an easy job at first, as it was going to be my first & got some pointers from kaaawaz28. And I even think I could have done it in a half an hour. But, as always, never is that easy. I guess flat ground does make some difference, which is up the road from my house, but who wants to go and drag every thing up the road. The passenger side bolt was some what covered up by the desecrating rubber. After failed attempted to cut it, it was me, an open end and about 20 degrees of movement to get the bolt out. Then thanks to the uneven ground the trans had shifted about 1/2 inch after more failed attempts to push the trans over and get the bolt in. It was all about getting jacks to balance the trans and the car to center it up.....then a sticky bolt. Well I did get in, I think I did not break anything.
Felt different, of course had no room to run today with all the traffic and late for work, so on my way home I will have sometime to play. No more thumps when she is pounded.

Well all good for now. Did not know you could leave tracks when the pavement is wet. But she did not thump so I am happy.

my auto teacher said the rubber mounts are better and they will in the end last longer there then poly mounts, poly mounts will tend to start making noise when they get old, and hardend up

Not sure if I agree that poly gets harder with age, as I've seen poly mounts many years old that were not brittle. The torque of 5.7 3rdGens have a habit of breaking the trans crossmember rubber mount pretty easily. Poly takes the stress better, a worthwhile tradeoff for less vibration isolation. Given the nature of most drivers, who are more interested in butt-comfort than performance, the sensation of driving a race-tuned suspension isn't what they want. Besides, we're IROC drivers, butt-tough and ready for more, especially now that Mufi has fixed enough of the potholes around town that we can actually drive our cars on the street...

I don't know about their age wear, but the rubber will wear out with use, while the poly shouldn't. The poly is supposed to be more resistant to oil and solvents also.
