305 / 350 Wanted - Close to PA
Hi everyone.
You know your getting old when you visit a forum after many years and can't even remember your password or username! I had to re-register. I'm a 3rd Gen Virgin I guess.....
It's been years since my 84 T/A, 87 Blown Z-28 and 69 Camaro. (I do still have the 79 455 T/A though but that's not exactly a 3rd Gen now is it...)
Anyway, It's good to see how "freakin' big this forum has grown!
Don't "bash me" but my current project is Fiero Kit car (Ferrari 308 Replica) that is now in the process of getting it's V8 powerplant. What better place to turn to find an engine than the ThirdGen Board.
This is the third car like this I've done. Lots of torque in these swaps make for a very expensive ride, hot running (engine in rear and radiator up front) , and unreliable to say the least. Destroying Drivetrain like the last one with the SBC 400 is out of the question for this one. (although that was a scary ride...)
This is what I'm looking for:
5.0 or 5.7. Stock or Mostly stock. (mildly modified at the most). Carb or TBI (yes TBI) is fine. I could really go either way on TPI.
Something stock like a 305 in the 190 to 225 HP range is ideal for these swaps. After a mild cam and some head & exhaust work etc, my "limit" on this one is around 275-300HP. (350's 355's 383's etc with "monster torque" are not an option in these cars and at 2700 lbs, even 225-275 HP makes for a really nice ride without "all of the aggrevation".).
So for all of you upgrading to that Monster, Supercharged, NOS, Top Fuel, Blacktop Ripping Small block, let me know what you are taking out.
Complete running engines (reasonably priced - nothing crazy.) and hopefully in driving distance from PA) would be ideal. However, the unfinished Short Block or Long Block Project would also be considered.
Let me know what you have, approximate price and where you are.
Boy it's great to see this board again, I've been looking at all of the sections for the past 2 hours.
Take Care,
Brian
