82 T/A Trans Am, emblems WANTED
82 T/A Trans Am, emblems WANTED
on the sail panel and possibly on the buldge hood scoop 82 Trans Ams have an emblem that just says "T/A" does anyone have any of these for sale??? I am looking for a complete set, 2 for sure if not 4.
I believe those were only on pre-production cars and not used on the actual cars. I have seen them in a couple Firebird book's i have. Pontiac was trying to skirt having to pay the $5 per royalty to the Trans Am racing people by calling the car a T/A, didn't work so they just used Trans Am. the emblem design however was used for the 82-84 S/E's
hey Dave wz up. i am assuming the emblems must have been on regular production cars b/c in the junkyard by my house there is an 82 Trans An in the yard and on the sail panels you can see the remnants of the adhiesive that held those emblems on the car, so unless if the car is extremely rare it has to be a regular (somewhat at least) production emblem. next time I go to the junkyard I will bring my digital camera and take a pic of the car.

That is kind of interesting. I too have only seen them in pre-production photo's and not on the actualy cars. Are you sure the one you saw wasn't actually the "S/E" emblem that was removed??
seeing is believing. next time I go to the junkyard I will bring my dig camera with me and take not only a pic of the car but also of the vin number, who knows maybe this car was a real rare find, it happends I guess.

Like they said above. That badge never went to production. You probably saw an S/E with the badge removed.
A loaded S/E can easily be confused for a T/A if you are not paying attention.
In the pre-production photos, the T/A badge was on the fender too.

I have been parting out 3rd gens for 9 years, I know what I am looking at and it is not adhesive left over from an SE emblem. not only did the car have T/A emblems on the sail panels but the speaker grills did also have no mounting studs.this is the first time I have ever seen speaker grilles made without studs. now I don't know if those grilles are very rare (first time I have ever seen grilles like these) or only on pre-production cars but I have those in my garage right now so if someone does not believe me they made speaker grilles without studs then I can post a pic of those to after I get pics of the car.the car is def an 82 which I can tell by the scuff plate headliner and seatbelts, those are all pretty unique to 82. the car right now has no fenders. anyone know of any other little clues to look for if it is a pre-production car that somehow made its way to the junkyard ???? any possible special code in the vin number that would indicate it is a prototype.

I forgot to say that the car also had 4 ground effect type of parts that I took off and sold on Ebay. these ground effects parts were if I am right only on 82 Trans Am's. one ground effect went in front of the rear tires and the other ground effect went in front of the front tires and was actually mounted under the car and I think it connected to the air dam.
