Fixing bad Hvac lighting (camaros)
One of my pet peeves with camaros has been with the uneven lighting on the Hvac, especially with LEDs.Finally decided to do something about that. The light never quite reaches the switch side very well. You FB guys dont have this problem. My original idea was to just use an early FB Hvac unit, but my blue LED didnt jive with the orange FB text.So i decided to sacrafice the FB piece instead!
White dot marks where to drill.FBs use 3 #74 bulbs Vs one 194 bulb on camaros.Just cut one FB socket off & glue onto the camaro piece.

Here's my piece w/the socket glued on & the metal trim that goes below the Hvac face (drill to match as well).

Wire up one of the #74 connectors to the camaros 194 harness.

Done.Simple as that, small mod,big improvement.Wish i had a before pic to compare.

Another cool light mod, 84. Looks like something that GM should have done.

I may have to do this myself too, I put a red LED in my HVAC and it's bright on one end and can't hardly see it on the other. The cluster looks good though!

This has to be the coolest interior mod I have seen. ok so your car is an '84. Do you know if this same procedure should work for my 1989 Camaro RS 5.0 liter coupe? I have the same problem, but I also know that as far as interior parts go for the third gen camaro, they made slight changes here and there. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Fixing bad Hvac lighting (camaros)
See no reason why it wouldnt. Not much difference in Hvacs from a mechanical standpoint.

Um, wouldn't swapping the entire face plate unit with a Bird one and swapping the face (the part with the graphics, if you don't want red/orange words) between the plates achieve the same results? Of course, you would also have to swap the fan switch, but...
Seems to me a lot of work for pretty much no reason if you already have both face plates...

...but they wont interchange!Go ahead & try it.T/As is taller & slightly shorter & the faceplates snap inplace differently.Otherwise i would have done that to begin with.
Not that much work either, unless you cant drill a hole & splice in a couple wires.
Yes, the #74 is spliced into the camaros 194 socket.

Re: Fixing bad Hvac lighting (camaros)
All that first pic showed was the back of the Hvac with a dot marking where to drill. You can see where that is in the 2nd pic.As well the socket glued to the back.
The other missing pic was just the f.b #74 pigtail w/bulb, spliced into the Camaro 194 bulb.
Don't remember what the 3rd missing pic was!

Re: Fixing bad Hvac lighting (camaros)
So all I need is an extra plate to cut off the socket to mount a new bulb and socket connector I suppose correct?
