I want to do a few upgrades . I am getting headers and new exhaust , an AFPR and my intake manifold gasket is leaking , so the intake will be off also . I will probably port the plenum or at least grind down those EGR restricters or whatever they are . I may even send it off to TPIS to have it done if when I get it off it looks like something I dont think I can handle . I also have a set of chrome valve covers I am putting on . So ,while I have this much of the engine off , I was considering a new timing chain and gears . I was going to get the headers coated but I think the $200 would be better spent on a cam . Now a couple of questions , do I have to drop the oil pan to change the timing chain ? I know someone who did his chain & gears and did not drop the pan and it leaked oil afterwards ,this was on an olds motor and the guy doing was not exactly a mechanic though. Also if I get the double roller gears will my stock timing cover fit over it ? The reason I want to change the chain and gears is because the car has about 100,000 miles on it and I drag race it quite often . I'm not sure if I am getting a cam or not but what would be a good one for this setup , I will have to retain the stock valvetrain ( I'm runnin outa money here!) .It is a 1990 5.7 TPI , automatic. That is about all I can handle for now , I still need SFC's and such . Any and all help or opinions will be greatly appreciated! Thanx a lot !
