Looking Into Nitrous, Need Help Selecting
Looking Into Nitrous, Need Help Selecting ANYONE??!!
Hello everyone, I have stock internals in my 1988 GTA 5.7L TPI, and I want to put a 50 - 75 horse shot on my engine. I was told 75 horse should be my limit, and I agree, in fact 50 will most likely be the most I'll put in.
Here's my dilemma, there are more nitrous companies out there now, and I don't know who to pick. NOS has been around for ever, Edelbrock knows his shlt, and others, I forget the names.
Here is what I am looking for in a system.
- Steel braided line for ease of installation and looks
- Quality of course
- A system that runs parallel to the ECM, instead of using additional sensors (is this possible?)
- Some kind of stealth look, where as its not screaming "I HAVE NITROUS!!!!!" to everyone.
I have heard of systems for 4.6L stangs that run piggyback with the ECM.
What are your suggestions guys... I am all ears!!!! Some pictures of TPI Nitrous system would be a appreciated bonus!
Going to be a big purchase along with my headers and y-pipe... then the engine is done until something goes. Its running 14.3's on bald tires and stock manifolds and y-pipe right now. I want 13.5 with nitrous and headers.
Thanks in advance guys!!!!!!

My brother (Z28z) has the Nitrous Express wet kit and he loves it. It is adjustable for 75-150 hp with the Shark Nozzle, instead of a TB plate. He got it for www.musclecartechnologies.com for $460 shipped. No one can beat that price for the best Nitrous kit around. Email him with any questions at n2o91z28@aol.com.

nos kit
hey nathan it's adam... it would be foolish in spending a good sum of money when you would probably rarely use it... you have a nice car and i'd hate to see ya blow it... to me nitous isn't worth much until you have atleast a 100hp hit.. yea it's possible to beat people with just say 50 to 75 shot.. but you can forget the bigdog *******'s in rustangs that pleg most of us... your best shot will be a sneky pete setup from nos.. it will give you 75hp and it's small enough i'd say to fit under your seat.. this way no getting in and out to turn the bottle on... big giveaway!!! and it will be enough to wax regular unmodded stangs easily.. well goodluck and iv'e included a pic of my nos 5151 kit...

Is the sneaky pete what you got Adam? looks simple!! Have a website I can go to to check it out? Is it a wet system?
As for blowing my car up.... I will be moitoring air/fuel ratio closely, and also have fail safe components installed.
Thanks for the heads up Adam.. no one has suggested the sneaky pete system yet!!
Oh.. and thanx for the compliment on the car

A 75 shot sucks. When my brother was first testing his nitrous, we couldn't even feel a 75 shot at anypoint. A 100 shot is perfect for you and will run the times you expect. My brother is running a 150 shot on the stock short block with 140,000+ miles and NO problems, and all he is using is an extra fuel pump and colder spark plugs. With the Nitrous Express kit you don't have to retard your timing either because it is designed to work with your stock computer. Call Nitrous Express and talk to John Stewart ,owner and inventor, and he will tell you everything you need to know. The website is www.nitrouswarehouse.com.

a more nominal amount of nitrous for a stock V8 is 100 to 150. Normal maximums for stock engines I recommend are similar to what is listed by most nitrous companies are as follows; 4 cyl up to 1.6 liters 35 hp, 4 cyl up to 2.5 liters 50 hp, 6 cyls up to 2.5 liters 50 hp, larger 6 cyls 75 hp, small displacement, small bore (less than 4" bore) V-8s 100 hp, small displacement large bore V8's 125 hp, and larger displacement, large bore (like 350, 351, 360 CIDor larger) 150 hp. As engines get larger the amount of the surface area of the top of the piston usually increases this is the critical factor. so if your engine comes with stock forged pistons (L98's do not) then this rule goes out the window. I like the NX 20920. but if hidden is more important to you then I recommend the NOS 5115 (for must-nags) because it hides easily and is a 50 or 75 hp dry shot kit that enriches through the injectors using the same method as an FMU on a blower car. The instructions are so simple that they will cross over from a stang to a f-body. Dont buy the stage 2 part of this kit (big inline pump and jets for a 125-175 shot) unless you are using 30# injectors.
Thanx for the input guys... learning a lot here. A lot of people are telling me to go with nitrous express, but I don't like that fact of putting the nozzle in the rubber air duct. I prefer the TB plate better. I have to call someone at TNT and see if they make a system for L98's

I have a 5151 (not currently in use) and when I used to hit it the car would run horribly for the first few seconds until about 3000 rpm. I am told by others on this site that it was due to the nature of the dry flow TPI intake design and a wet flow nitrous system. there are many that do not have this problem, and I never did until I "wet shot" my TPI. my other nitrous cars I hit right off the line.

nos kit 5151
i just seen my post i made didn't work... anyway i doubt the sneaky pete will work unless you car is carbuerated.. to me the nos 05151 kit will be your best bet... tnt wants too much for their systems and i wouldn't try converting a lt1 system to a tpi.... just when you put it on keep it conservitive... i'd hate to see that car go down
badgta, don't worry about the car, it will be fine.... if it does go down, it will be back very quickly and better than ever
The TNT system is $650 american, which is about $1000 canadian, which is about how much a NOS system costs.
The closest TNT dealer is Agostino Racing Engines in Toronto, and by chance, that is the main sponsor for the F-Body club I belong to. So I may get some special treatment.
The only thing that I may have a problem with the LT1 system is the TB plate, I don't see why anything else would be different. If I need to, I can get a TB plate made up by one of the guys in the club.

I will definately keep you all posted on what my final decision will be. It will be a while, cause I am getting headers the same time as the nitrous, so I have to save up quite a bit of coin.... I am half way there.
