most of the supercharger kits around are pretty expensive (no don't worry , this doesn't involve a leaf blower , lmao)

but the holly 144 supercharger is relatively cheap (or cheaper than other ones).

I realize it's a roots type blower , but could it be mounted next to an engine ? like above the pass. side header/next to the valve cover ?

CAI would get air to the top and the bottom "hole" would be connected to the intake (carb/tpi , whatever).

it would still work , correct ?

you may ask why not just bolt it on top of the engine , but it would be better for clearance and would/should work for any type of engine (tpi, carb, tbi etc...)

and if you're wondering , no, I'm not planning on doing this just figured I would post about it and see what the experts say lol

In theory I guess it would work. Your manifold volume would be huge and probably result in some bad juju.

I have seen dual roots blowers, kind of the same thing.

Isnt that kinda the same idea as how a whipple charger works? I looks kinda like a roots style and sits off to the side. ????

well the whole idea behind this would be to save $$$ , doesn't the 144 cost around $1200 or so ? I'm sure it would be a lot cheaper without the "kit" , intake etc... just the supercharger itself

might be worthwhile to do if someone know hows to fabricate the inlet and outlet and a way to mount the supercharger there safely.

Hey go check out this website:

www.toohighpsi.com

On that page is a grey Ford thunderbird. The guy put a SBF in it and a pair of those blowers mounted on the side. It is a little off the subject but it may give you a couple of ideas.

Mike Sitar's the MAN. Too bad he tore the twin superchargers off of that thing, woulda been cool if he got into the 9's with it.

thanks guido for that link , that's exactly what I had in mind (with a single one) , heh , guess it wasn't a totally original idea , lol

maybe one day I'll save enough cash to try it for real.

Here you go:

that's the eaton M-90 (it's a roots type, this one is off a 3.8L t-bird super coupe, but they were also used on the supercharged gm 3.8's), we put on my brother's LTD:
.

So far he's run 11's at 120 on the radials and the rims in that picture, so I guess that you could say it works.

This is the same blower that Mike was (i say that because he sold the setup a couple of months ago and now has a single turbo on that car) using 2 of, but it's being spun at a higher rpm.
