8 rib or 12?

I bought Procharger's A/C relocation kit (in preparation to add a Procharger later) and immediately realized I would need their pulleys as well. (It would have been nice if they had told me that beforehand, I'm new to SCs.) I received the pulleys today and, seeing that they are 8 rib, realized I could have gone with the 12 rib. The 12 rib crank pulley is an additional $135 (it's billet), is it worth the extra $?

I know this question requires more details: '78 'Bu, will be building a Vortec headed, carbed 350 to produce ~400hp NA. I'd like to add 50% or 200hp on top of that. An ATI tech said the 8 rib should be fine for that, the boost would need to be ~10.

I run a TH700R4, 2500 stall 12" and 3.42 gears if that makes a difference.

Thanks!
Chris

Chris,

I just happen to have an ATI 12-rib crank pulley (7.65" diameter). If you're interested, e-mail me. Thanks.

I want it!

Willie,
If you still want to get rid of that pulley, I've been experiencing some belt slip on my 8 rib procharger, and i figure upgrading to a 12 rib would help. Email me @

I should have been more specific. My application is a V-belt setup.

Knowing what I know now it would have probably been cheaper to convert to a F-body serpentine system, but I have a new V-belt R4 and CS Alternator (12 o'clock mounts) that wouldn't work. Also, I see posts that Procharger no longer offers the 12 rib with the f-body kits (?).

I don't know if all f-body serpentine setups put the R4 compressor on the passenger side but all the pictures on this website I've browsed do. This puts the compressor on the correct side (no A/C lines going over the engine - in my *opinion* that is cluttered). The Procharger bracket puts the alt. and the R4 on the passenger side, the Procharger mounts drivers side. Pic of sslee's (nice car btw):

Jeremy from Procharger is selling me a 12 rib pulley at a discount. The pulley has a v-belt groove on the rear for the power steering, 12 rib in the middle and a v-belt on the end for the R4/water pump/alt/tensioner. Maybe down the road I'll try to convert those accessories to serpentine, the tensioner is a serpentine type. Anyone ever swapped the clutch on a R4 compressor?
