Building boost bottom end

I'm doing some research on boosting a 1993 3.1 MPFI engine. I want to build the bottom end to hold about 15psi. I know forged pistons and rods are a must, but can I get away with the stock crank? What should I use to beef this up to handle 15psi (or even more maybe)? Also what would a good compression be to run it on 93 octane? 8:1? Just looking for ideas.

the 60 degree GM V6's cranks are notoriously weak. for several years of 2.8 the #1 cause of major engine failure was broken crank.

So basically the only thing I can use is the block correct? All new interals are needed?

let me offer you the idea of the 3.4HT swap. this engine makes way more HP initially than the 2.8 and 3.1. if you were to build your current motor or the 3.4ht with less boost, you would raise the durability and survivaility of this project. the best 2.8/3.1/3.4 swap and tuning info comes from the S-10 guys check this link. http://www.s-series.org/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=14

This isn't for a Camaro. I'm just curious if there is anything strong on this block. Didn't they come with forged connecting rods?

not many cars "dont" have forged rods (1038 or 1040) forged steel that is.
