Questions about a direct port setup. . . . . .

I am planning on putting an "under the manifold" DP setup on my holley stealth ram intake. I wanted to know if I need to buy a complete kit, or would it be cheaper to just upgrade the wet kit I have now? i.e. will the solenoids suport a big shot? Can I still use the 6-AN line going into them?

I plan on spraying a 150-200 shot. I know that's not a huge amount for a DP setup, but I don't feel like swaping pistons out just yet. Will the rings on a ZZ4 hold up to a 200 shot?

How hard is it to plum the nozzles under the intake. Has anyone on this board done it? Which kit did you use?

I know a lot of people spray on this site but I haven't seen to many DP setups. If you have one please post and give a breaf description of what you have in it.

Sorry about all the questions. Thanks in advance.

maybe i missed something but...

A ZZ4 has hyper pistons...You want to throw a 150-200 shot at it? That would really be pushing your luck...From what I am told 150 is the max if its tuned exactly properly. If its not, I am told you can kiss your engine goodbye. Hyper pistons are better than cast but they can't handle detonation.

I don't have nitrous but I did a lot of research into it before I decided to go with a blower. Be careful with those hyper pistons whatever you do!

Good luck

i have the NX 150 wet kit..and now have either 175 or 200 jets in it. i was thinking DP also a while back, but realized for the $$ involved to tap the intake and such it wasnt worth it. now if i was going to do 250+hp, yea DP would be good.. but not for a 150 shot.

The pistons are one of the reasons why I wanted to go w/ a DP. Its a lot safer that way.

N2O will toast forged pistons just like hyperpathetic ones if the system isn't tuned right.

Do you remember the cost of what it would take to convert to a DP?

You said like 2 posts up that you have it jetted for 175-200.

Which means it's good for 175-200hp.

What pills are you running to get that shot. 62/35 are the 150 jettings, I can't find any above 150.

Sorry Freebird, the question about the pills was aimed for aziroc, not you.

ok, so is anyone running a DP setup? Or does anyone know someone who is? I'm really looking for some personal experience w/ a DP set up. Thanks.

Under manifold Fogger

I run a fogger (above manifold) but I ran an under manifold setup back in the day. It works, but you can imagine how hot it gets. The manifold maching (drill and tap for fogger nozzles) is about $80. The nitrous kit can be had for about $500 (less bottle and line) and fitting it to the manifold is about $100-$200 in labor to have it done right/professionally. Unless you are going $$ racing, it is more work than it is worth for a 150hp shot of spray.

The main reason hypereutectic pistons don't like nitrous is the harmonics. From what I've been told they ring, and can shatter like a glass with too much nitrous.

Thanks for the reply. Did you have any problems w/ the fuel and n2o getting hot? Did it just require a longer purge? Would a cool can help in this situation? Also, I'm assuming you had a NOS kit? I take it you don't have the part number for it. Do you know off hand If NX also sells an upgrade kit?

I'll have to do some more research on the pistons I guess. I wasn't aware that they had harmonic problems.

$$$? That's all I race for Its to expensive to race for ****s and grins anymore.

Thanks again for everyones help.

so I guess the solenoids won't support a 200 shot?

The NX solenoids should support more than 200hp.

The standard NOS Super Powershot solenoids only support 170hp. IIRC, they have a 063 orifice size or 073 orifice...
Cant remember exactly, but i'm leaning towards 063...

The standard "Iceman" NX solenoid has a .093 orifice.. Which is good for well over 200...

And, the reason they have bigger jets available is because they have giant solenoids available as well.

.063 is their "purge solenoid" Commonly used by NOS as purge & regular nitrous solenoid. Compare to Super Powershot.

.093 NX standard nitrous solenoid for the GM EFI kit (20920)

.125 NX upgraded nitrous solenoid, "pro power"

.157 NX upgraded nitrous solenoid, "super shark"

NOS has solenoids to compare to most of NXs, it's just that what comes with standard kits is their ****tiest noid available, the super power shot..
